should children start formal education at age 6?

Who else agrees with this? I know that their are some school models (like the Steiner/Waldorf Schools) who follow this, as well as many schools in other european countries. Looking back at my own education, I genuinely do not see the point of learning in Year 1. Everyone was far too young, and that impeded on proper educational development/progress. It was a wasted year, so to speak. We started learning things like maths, but the emotional and social immaturity meant that this knowledge was not retained and generally had to be re-taught in year 2. If I were to remodel school education, I would extended nursery from 3 to 6, and start formal education at 6, beginning with year two.
