I am currently choosing between doing a BTEC in IT(worth 2 A-levels) with CS and Maths A-levels or doing an extended diploma in IT with just Maths A-level. I would rather do BTEC in IT with CS and Maths A-levels because many universities desire CS as an a-level. However, I am worried that the BTEC may be regarded as a subject too similar to CS A-level and therefore universities may not count it towards my applications in 2 years.

I am worried about which path I should do for the next 2 years. I am looking for help on this matter.

Thanks,

Josh

Check the units on the BTEC if you will be doing most of the following units then there would be no point doing CS A level

- Object oriented programming
- Procedural programming
- Event driven programming
- Computer Systems
- Computer Systems Architecture
- Computer Networks or Managing Networks
- Organisational Systems Security or Network Security
- Mathematics for IT Practitioners
- Systems Analysis & Design or Software Design & Development

i would recommend doing the Extended diploma + A level Maths because the Extended diplomas are more recognised and CS A level is never a pre-requisite to study it further however if you would find it interesting then take it for fun, but you will most likely be doing the same stuff on the BTEC

A BTEC in IT is not worth 2 A levels. Just take all A levels

I would recommend the former option, and taking A-level Further Maths rather than CS. The A-level CS is likely to have signifcant overlap with the BTEC which is usually frowned upon in applications. However, CS courses at university are necessarily mathematical and Maths is an absolute requirement for most (as you seem to be aware) while Further Maths is highly valued for most and required for a small number.
