How generous are the Cambridge Trusts?

Hello all.

How generous are the Cambridge Trusts? I'm particularly interested in Overseas students, whose total expenses per year exceeds 20,000 GBP. In my case, I come from a very poor family in India, and I need almost the entire amount to fund my education through Cambridge. King's just told me that there are no full scholarships for undergraduates, and only part-cost bursaries are awarded, although occasionally they can be substantial. But I don't know what to expect, and I'm exhausting my avenues rapidly.

Any information might be of help.

If you are doing a science course, you may want to consider appling to companies for some kind of sponsorship. You'll have to do some work for them, but my friend gets £4k a year in exchange for working during the summer.

With regards to the Trust, I don't know anything about it. I'll leave that to the other people on here.

Hmm, gotta love girls from East Europe
But seriously, I always thought Czech Republic was part of the EU - what's the problem?
I am not Czech!!

I am Russian

Oh, so a Russian living in Czech Republic.

That starts getting complicated
Haha, and i am actually half Armenian by blood. LOL, talkin about complicated:smile:

But yea, the money is an issue:frown:

I know, this money issue really sucks. I guess your government isn't of great help either, right? Maybe you can still find some scholarships, though. If I were you and money would be a big problem, I definitely try everything and ask anybody to support me. I know of a German guy who had financial problems and he actually went to politicians and asked them for help - I don't know the end of the story, though

Anyways, Cambridge is too great not to attend.

I really dont think that you are going to get 20,000 pounds out of them.
They generally give you up to 5000 pounds although, very rarely, they have been known to give up to 10,000 pounds.

Even if they let you study without university or college tuition fees or let you room there for free ( extremely unlikely, unless you are the intellectual peer of C.V Raman, Bose, Ramanujan or Chandrashekar ) , there is still the cost of food, clothing, transport, books, stationery, shoes etc. This would be around 5000 to 6000 pound a year.

I see from your wikipedia user page that you are a 22 year old gay rights and HIV/AIDS activist.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Balaji_Ravichandran Perhaps there is something in that world that can fund your jaunt to Cambridge.
That would be a bit generous.

Apparently, a student from Brunei got a bursary of 17,000 quid. Of course, he must be the next Einstein or something. As for my intellectual capacity, I'll leave the experts to judge. For now, all I can do is keep trying other sources, and "hope against hope hopen" (to borrow the words of Ogden Nash).

To the OP, I take it by "admitted" (on your wiki profile) you actually mean "got an offer". Unless it was unconditional of course.
Reply 15
Unconditional (and firm), of course.

I asked my friend from Thailand and it seems that that is a large part of the offer.

It wasn't a condition on my offer letter. Although I ought to give a financial guarantee before I begin my course. So, it is enough if you show evidence of funding (for example, and including, scholarships/bursaries from Cambridge Trusts), before you begin your course.

My letter said my offer was FIRM, and that I needn't worry about my accommodation.
