Just a quick question... did everyone's parents find out they'd been to meet someone How did they react?
They came to my house first so I could take them to the right bar. They trust my judgement!

    Not good.

It took a long time to gain back the trust.

Also they said I couldn't go to the manics gig (it was the manic forum meetup that I went to) and only decided to let me go on the afternoon of the gig. There were odd silences for a long time too.

EDIT: It was only becuse I didn't tell them that I was going. If I'd have told them, they'd have worried a bit for me, but it wouldn't have been so crappy when they found out. 'Cos they'd have known already...

I've never met an internet friend before because this is the only forum I've ever posted and it'd also be really scary! so I don't think I'd ever meet anyone I'd met online

i wouldn't meet up with someone i met online... but i have an online diary thing which people can leave notes on. i saw someone else with the location 'southport' (where i live) i left a note, found out he went to my college, turns out we have form rooms next to each other and have friends in common (my best mate used to fancy his best mate and we practically stalked them) we chatted on msn and we figured out who the other one was, bumped into each one night in town (slightly drunk) and haven't looked back since he's my bf (and to think my mate used to call him 'internet boy')

I have, but don't feel I ought to vote in the poll, because it's not the kind of thing you mean. I frequent a forum devoted to one of my hobbies, Airsoft, and playing Airsoft games I've met people who I knew from the forum. But I've never gone to meet anyone I've just randomly chatted to.

My mom found out that i was going to meet that mensa guy...but i told her about him beforehand(not that we're meeting up-just talking to eachother), and she nearly freaked out...but then she calmed down...and HIS mom was worried...so HIS mother called mine!!! But that made my mom change her mind, although it was veeeeery embarassing ...anyhow, if my dad finds out that i've met ppl from the internet, he's gonna kill me!!!

I've meet quite a few people from conversations i've had online. My judgment seems to be ok, i've kept in touch with nearly all of them. I've been with my boyfriend for 2.5 yrs and we first talked online. I think as long as you are sensible it can work, and i've been lucky in that the people i've met have been as nice or nicer than their on screen persona.

Talking in chat rooms is sad and pathetic,
meeting people off the internet is such a stupid and sad thing to do. Get a life!!!
Its for people who cant socialise in the real world.

Talking on a forum such as this is not that far detached from talking in a chat room. And ta very much but i have a life. And my social skills are probably one of my best attributes.

My boyfriend has been to meet people off a message board before, they set up a convention. My friend met her previous boyfriend off the internet, we went with her to meet him the first time, it was scary, but it was worth it, they went out, but are no longer an item, she also met this other guy off the internet, on her own, they went to the cinema, he went to the toilet and disappeared.. how nice!

Also, I have a friend on the internet I'm hoping to meet in summer. I am pretty sure he's not a freak though. I've checked up on him!

Well I didn't tell my parents, but I was in my 30's and I live 150 miles away from them so there is lots I don't tell them.

BTW if I had I'm sure they would have freaked and called the police LOL.
