What could I have done to my knee?

Well today I left work early (because of very bad snow) ended up having to leave my car in a random street 3 miles from my house and walk home. I had high heeled boots on and managed to walk home ok (only very cold and wet, and head to toe in snow) When I got in I noticed my left knee felt very numb, I had a look and it was bright red, and also very very hot. If I planed my hand over it, you could feel the heat coming of it! Now, a few hours later it’s because quite swollen and I’m aware of a sort of ‘heavy’ painful feeling. The odd thing is, my right knee is fine, no problem at all with that one. I am used to walking, as I go to the gym 3 times a week, so it can't be that.

anyone have any idea what I could have done to it?

I don't know, maybe
Put ice on the swollen part - will stop the swelling. Also keep it elevated.

Is it a sharp pain or throbbing achey feeling ?

The best remedy for sprains and strains is RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Practically, the best you can do is apply some ice (with a cloth) for a few minutes, to reduce the swelling. Ibuprofen will also help. It may take some time to heal completely, but you should certainly notice some improvement within a couple of days. If not, there might be a more serious problem so you should consider seeing your GP.
why has your post got a warning?

RICE is the best as described..

I'd rest up til tomorrow and see what happens

Are you sure you didn't land on it in a dody way or put too much weight on it? May not have felt it because of the coldness - but as you sound pretty fit and strong tha may not be the case.
