i've had 4 wisdom teeth removed and...

i've had numbness in the right half of my tongue since yesterday, when i thought it'd diasppear.
i know when they remove the wisdom teeth they say that they can accidently bruise the nerve near your tooth, which causes numbness, maybe even permanently - has anyone else had this?

i'm wondering whether the numbness in my tongue will actually disappear... after a few days?

also, how long did people find it was until you could laugh again without it hurting?

There's no set amount of time it takes for the feeling to come back...I had an operation on my jaw back in September and I had no feeling what so ever in my bottom lip for nearly 2 months. I still haven't got all the feeling back in my chin.

When I had 2 of my wisdom teeth out I think it was about 10 days before I could laugh/smile/eat normally again. Hope you feel better soon!
thank you!
i hope you get the feeling in your chin back soon too!

Lol Thanks
It doesn't bother me most of the time until someone points out I've been walking around with toothpaste/food/drink etc on my chin all day!

Having no feeling on part of your tongue must feel reaaally strange though!

it's a bit wierd when eating as you can only feel the food on part of your tongue! then again i can't eat properly because the teeth sockets are still healing.
kissing could be interesting if the numbness doesn't diasppear!

I'm one of the blessed few that my mouth was adequate for all four of mine to grow in perfectly straight. I hate hospitals and needles and all the other required equipment for the operation.

I had all mine out a few years ago. I couldn't speak, eat, feel anything around my mouth for about at least a week, then it became gradually easier. I'd swollen up as well so I looked like a hamster lol. Eating was hard as was taking tablets. How was I supposed to take tablets when I couldn't open my mouth?!

Hope you are ok soon, it's not that bad, just a bit annoying .

my tongue was numb for a couple of days (not numb so much as 'weird') after my op.
it should rectify as the swelling goes down - make sure to take your pills (as if anyone wouldn't!).

in some it is a permanent problem because of damamge to the nerve, so if it is still there after a week then possibly think about calling your doctor/dentist who performed the procedure.

yeah  do they clamp ur tongue out of the way when they do it too?

my tongue is so swollen atm. hopefully it'll go down. none of the sockets have bled, which i find astonishing because my family and friends keep making me laugh. times like this make me wish i have no sense of humour! hehe.
Did u have them out, under anesthetic or awake ?

I'm having mine out, under General Anesthetic. I'm teriffied about that
General An will pretty much kill you (not literally) for the rest of the day - you will be drowsy and tired - so spend a lot of time asleep.

Fir the week after you will be tired and ahve a sore mouth so keep laods of entertainment. I went back to work after 7 days and I felt OK - it was good getting some fresh air and being out.

seriously, don't worry. it was no way near as bad as i imagined.

i went in, and was visited by the anaesthatist, consultant and the ward nurses. they come and measure ur blood pressure every half an hour after the op, and twice before it.
they gave me 6 tablets before the op - 3 ibrouprofen, 2 paracetamol and 1 anti-sickness.
then i changed into my gown - i could keep my underwear on, so wear nice underwear to make u feel a bit better
then i got wheeled into the anaesthetic room, where they put the canula into my hand. it feels just like a scratch, and thats what i thought of - just someone scratching my skin, so i wasn't like "argh needle!!"
when they were doing that they were all talking to me about stuff i didnt really care about - did i have any brothers or sisters, did i watch medical dramas on tv (i went on about scrubs)
and then they injected another anti-sickness into my hand, and a pre-med which just relaxes you.
apparantly after that they gave me the real anaesthetic, but i dont remember being given it at all - i only remember talking about scrubs!
they gave me a local anaesthetic in my mouth anyway, so when i woke up i wasnt in pain.
when i woke up there was gauze in my mouth - to stop the bleeding.
when its stopped they take it out and give you a drink through a straw.
then after a while, when you're all bubbly they have to give you something to eat or drink, just to make sure you're not sick, and you can swallow food.
then after that, they let you get changed, and they take the canula out of your hand. that doesn't hurt atall.
then you're free to go
i have to take paracetamol (8 a day) ibrouprofen (6 a day) and some anti-infection drugs (3 a day).

for me, it doesn't hurt atall when you're mouth is just normally relaxed. that makes sleeping okay. half of my tongue is still numb, but its probably just bruised.
none of my sockets have bled again. i've eaten yoghurts, ready brek, soup, a bit of bread and some mashed banana. i can't open my mouth atall. i can just about fit a tea spoon in, which is handy for eating food, but tiny amounts.
i look a bit like a hamster, with bruising on the inside of my mouth, and you can see my stitches (i have a pic if you're interested!)

it's fine  only hurts when i laugh  so make sure the people you're around don't make you laugh!

that's my story anyway.
