shoulder rolling/grinding noise

Hi there, i need advice!

when i imitate a butterfly swimming stroke with both arms in the air, as my arms pass my head i hear/feel a large grinding/cluinking noise that feels like it is coming from the centre of my back behind my upper chest. It also happens when i roll my shoulders together (forwards) if i really push them. does anyone have any idea what this could be and whether it is normal?

I did used to cycle alot with a heavy weight on my back and am concerned i could have damaged my back by not taking up correct posture

looking at this diagram:

i would say it is coming from where my clavicle joins onto my spine.

thanks for any help:smile:

I had something similar which went away after about 3 weeks on its own. How long has this been going on?

Don't think so. With me, if I put my left hand over my right shoulder and rotated my shoulder, I got a horrible clicking sound. Felt sort of dislocated until I did that. Was horrible :s-smilie:

been like that for years. i just assumed it was normal until i did it one day and it hurt.

upon further experimentation it seems to do it when i rotate my right arm on its own and only slightly with my left.

Have you seen your GP about it?
I've got it to. Never seemed odd but I do have rather stuffed up shoulders, probably from very heavy school bags.

probably from very heavy school bags.

I think that was the cause of mine as well...

havent seen my gp, and yes the cause i'm guessing was a combo of heavy school bags, and doing a paper round on a bike that was too small for me with a properly heavy paper bag.

In that case I would definitely recommend visiting your GP - I expect they'd refer you to a chiropractor or something...
