Reply 5

You could always ask your doctor for the pills that make your period not come.

Failing that, just explain to your nurse.

call the hospital and ask to talk to your surgeon or a surgery nurse.

I'm sure nurses deal with this problem everyday.

Don't mean to be nosey - but are u definatley not allowed out,of bed after ur surgery ?

If shes going in for five days then its more likely to be that she can't get out of bed.

If it's ur first day, hopefully it won't be too heavy. My first day is always the lightest.

Surely u will only be unconscious for the surgery. When you've come round,u'll be able to visit the loo ?

I hope I'll be allowed to the toilet, luckily this is the only aspect of my surgery I am worrying about, so I am worrying about it as much as I can! Actually my letter says all patients can have a shower or a bath everyday, so I should really stop worrying. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this before.

I've been in hospital where i've been unable to walk. They take care of everything (bedpans aren't just a comedy prop, you know), so i'm sure they'll be able to deal with your problem.

just tell the nurse. don't be embarrassed. trust me, I've had explained to a *male* nurse once that I can't take an urine test because I had my period. now thats embarrassing (for me, not for him. he was cool as a cucumber :p:)

Reply 14

Thing is you can only do this if you are mobile. Otherwise itsa bed baths and komodes / bedpans. I have no idea how bad you surgery is but im sure it will all be ok

I am getting the end of my oesophagus cut out because at the moment its stopping any food going down, which means at the moment I can't eat solids. Thanks for all your replies, I'm sure it will all be fine too!

A friend of mine had that done. She said it was fine and recovered very quickly.
She's now making the most of eating foods that she couldn't before.

Good luck. You'll be absolutely fine & back home and recovered quickly.:hugs:
