What's it like for women working in the Army? Are there limitations to what they can be involved in?

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch! When you join the Army, you can be sure the challenges, rewards and opportunities are the same whether you’re male or female. And except for a few front-line combat roles, women have access to the same jobs, pay, training and promotion as men.

At an initial training centre you may have your own room or sleep in a single sex dormitory. After training it is usual to have your own room. Men and women have separate accommodation blocks, where they wash and sleep. But all other aspects of Army life, including eating and training, is together. Women are able to apply for most jobs in the Army, the only ones currently not open to women are the Household Cavalry, Royal Armoured Corps and Infantry.

You would be trained to the same standard as men, be involved in all the banter, Adventurous training actives and when on training the team that you are with will help you all the way and you'll find that you'll become more of an Army family rather than just friends.

If you have any more questions please ask.
