ATCO trainees (NATS)

is anyone an ATCO trainee with NATS atm, or is anyone applying?? i'm just doing my application and am trying to think of all the things I can do to raise my chances of getting in! my dad keeps throwing speed=distance/time type questions at me, which i fail at miserable! i've got a book of psychometric tests as well, which are stretching my brain a bit!

any advice what else I can do??

Is it possible to arrange a visit to somewhere like Swanwick or something?

well i'm up in manchester, so swanick is a bit far! i've been to my dad's work and spent a day in the tower - they've got the most amazing new radar displays just about to go into operation! they let me have a play which was amazing! he's also going to get me into Manchester. as an added bonus, he was an ATCO in the RAF, which should stand me in good stead. and worked at scottish centre.

What's the process like, and what sort of salary can you expect?

Maybe you could give a bit of information that you know for others who may be interested?

well you have a series of interviews, a load of psychometric tests then all the other **** if you pass them (i'm not lookin too far ahead cos its so hard to get in!) the course is in bournemouth and the salary's around 10 grand and if you progress far enough in air traffic, you can get like over 70 grand!

70 at a supervisor level. The highest you can get too.

For the average joe you're talking 20-35k.

i do have it on rather good authority that when you get your first validation, if you've been with nats for 3 years, you get between 39 and 49 grand. which rises. obv it all depends on your unit you're at and whether you go into aerodrome or area.

john171 and Azzle,

Your both wrong, a little research goes a long way as the salary information is on the NATS careers website if you look hard enough, please PM me for the PDF I can send it or possibly put it up on here.

This isn't the best site to discuss a career in aviation, particularly ATC, again PM me and I will direct you to a forum site much better suited to any questions you have.

If you want to be successful in any career as an ATCO, as I do, although I am not 18 as of yet, then I would strongly recommend getting several visits, even work experience as I have done to make a decent impression.

PM me for more

ok so on that PDF, it does actually say 39-49 grand. 49 being at swanwick. and an ATCO at a recruitment day told me. and i know there's better forums for it, i go on them. but i asked this question ages ago before i knew about them.

and just so you know, 725308, i actually come from an ATCO background.

Rather than a 'PM me for more' it would be of more use if you posted the information.

Azzle,

I know these posts were written four years ago but can you, or anyone, tell me more about the other forums which a apparently better. I'm just starting preparing for my application and it would be really useful to have a look at them.

Thanks.

Hi there! I'm preparing myself for becoming an ATCO and i have found an app on the Apple store: FEAST Test Training App. It seems ok...and very complete, even the psychological test
