Psoriasis

Hey,

I was wondering what treatment people follow for psoriasis... what ointments etc? Any good shampoos to recommend? Isn^t psoriasis SUCH a pain?

I had it really badly at one point when I was stressed and because it was on my scalp too my hair started falling out and I was going bald  . I went to a chinese herbal therapis here I got some Herbal medication, i'd recommend it to anyone, it was brilliant, the cost is however fairly steep £100 + for a months treatement (mine was anyway) and don't get me wrong i'm not well off at all, but it was a last ditch attempt because it was effecting me so much. I just wish we had thought of it sooner

Surely, steroid creams aren't good for you? I used lots of steroid tablets messed me up really bad.

Where'd you get the T-Gel shampoo? Do you need a prescription or is it over the counter?

T-Gel you can get easily in any shops (well Boots, Superdrug etc)

I've used loads of different ones, not found any that have lasted long (T-Gel actually being the worst, did nothing!)

Polytar worked alright for a good while, then my hair got use to it, then my aunt (who also suffers from it) recommened Selsun, which was brilliant for me - but hair went back to normal pretty quick! Anyway one/both of those might be an idea, you can buy them in Boots etc but i had them both on perscription

Recenetly started using 'Soak and Float' by Lush - also brilliant for a while, but got use to it pretty quick! (If you wanted a more 'natural' product!) I'm same as you btw, not going down the steroid route!

Anyways agree with you, it's SUCH a pain. Mine's really bad atm, i'm going to the doctors soon (see if there are any other things to try!) shall post with any info i get if you want!

(Also, just using random links, like i said can get most in any type of Chemist shop - did come across this site though, has a few brands i might have a try of and gives some good info on them!)

Steroid creams never work for me (not for long anyway!). Is this the season for bad psoriasis coz mine has been particularly annoying the last few days. I also find that spending too much time indoors makes it worse- probably the dry air or something... just a guess.

T-gel is available in the shampoo aisle of most supermarkets, boots etc.

Thanks for the links, but they are all pretty much the same thing with the same chemical content. Do you have psoriasis just on the scalp or other parts of the body too (I do!) What do you use there + do you moisturise it daily?

Hate this weather, its making it much much worse

I got given a cream by the doctors called Dovonex..kind of like vaseliney type stuff...it didnt really work amazingly well..but i think it has different strengths.

I started taking Eskimo tablets, which are basically just omega 3 supplements..and that seemed to help.

I originally had it on my scalp, but now i have random patches everywhere else! Thankfully on my body it's not itchy or anything, so my scalp is my main worry!

I'm about to try Dreamwash by Lush - as i've heard many good reviews about it helping with this type of problem (there’s also a cream 'Dreamcream' which is probably better, but i'm trying the wash first!). I'll post in the Lush Thread (in Fashion & Beauty) if it works rather than digging up this thread again!

Apart from that i haven't actually tried anything yet, so don't know what to suggest!!!

i read somewhere that cutting out dairy and red-meats, and eating more things like celery, broccoli, spinach, water-cress etc is supposed to help. i also read that evening primrose oil pills help. at the moment i'm giving both of these a go, along with using polytar. it seems to be under control, but not improving, if that makes sense.
i just want some sun. for me, the sun is the best cure.
