I have an Asian rudeboy wannabe friend who has applied to Kings for some science related subject. So who knows, there may be another one next year?

this has always been by vision of kcl too esp its denists/medics thats wat puts me off it! (im asian too, but dont really fit rude girl status!)
As with any institution, you'll always find examples of a variety of subcultures. However, there are less of the type you describe at King's than at Queen Mary and Royal Holloway and, of these lesser numbers, they'll have greater natural ability than their fellow students at a non-Russell Group university.

Its true there are quite a few Asian medics/dentists who, for some reason, think they are tupacs successors, but whats hilarious is once you actually talk to these people they are often very softly spoken and extremely hardworking. Its all about the image...yo! lol im asian but far from a being a rudeboy but I still get on perfectly fine with most of these medics/dentists. Anyways, as Ron Stoppable said, these Asian medics/dentists tend to have much more natural ability than a lot of other people, so dont dare look down on them as they could well be kicking your ass in exams.

But what about the perceived notion of the exertion of pressure that originates from family influence? "You must score higher than your cousins!!!111"

Nowadays family pressure has very little to do with what course an Asian kid choses or how they perform in school. When a kid does well a kid does well for them self, not for their parents.

too true. im asian, i chose 2 apply 4 medicine myself..b4 that i went through a phase of wanting to do fashion design. my parents never bother 2 try n influence my choices in any way..coz they no it'd never work:biggrin:
Im asian and have applied for dentistry at KCL-oh what a cliche. But I hate the whole "Im an asian gangster/princess scene" and this whole thing is one of the things that discourages me about Kings. I dont wanna end up with just asian mates-I like a mixture. Im more into like the indie/gig stuff whcih will inevitable lead to the "oh your a coconut" comments. BOVVERED?!

not every asian there is like that! i used to think like you . . but rudegirls & boys actually tend to be quite sweet . . it's all a front
& believe or not there are other asians who like indie music & aren't just into r'n'b!
*open your mind! it's king's . . london! you don't have to be friends w/just people on your course ;]
"experts"-im sorry but unless they are chinese or indian themself then how would they know what family culture is like? i agree with mpat89 its changing a lot now.

If you dont want to encounter that sort of person, simply dont speak to them- there are a lot of people at kings so you will be able to pick and choose who you associate yourself with.

I'm white. Please divulge what an asian rudeboy wannabe is.

If they're anything but working class, I hate them already.

basically a well brought up asian who is heavily influenced by black culture/music. However, the newest of asian rudeboys are startin their own trend whereby bangra music is COOOL! Its all harmless at the end of the day, there not the ones taking your wallet on the night bus

2b honest there r asian rudeboys all over vermin, its kinda like the rats...apparently ure never more than 6feet from one when on the street, and even if not, they tend to come from uni's like hatfield and brunel by the coachload for various parties. but the kind of rudeboys u find at KCL and such uni's are gonna be the harmless, fun-loving wannabe ones
I checked out KCL about a month ago. I saw many Asian 'rudeboys' and blacks, and surprisingly not that many whites. Most people there look like "wastemanz" ... but I very much doubt that's the case as they're probably all intellectual, just lack a sense of fashion, consequently ****ing up their physical appearance.

I love the title of this thread.

I heard KCL has a huge Asian population too and it's very popular in India too. I prefer Bristol though, and am most probably going to chose them.
My flatmate is Indian and she says she doesn't like most of the Indians at King's, probably for the reason you describe...

Most of the "rudeboy" types are at Guy's campus though, I think... :s-smilie:
