pain in my jaw....

on saturday night i was sat at the computer and i felt that my jaw was hurtin whenever i open my mouth widely or clenched my teeth but only on the right hand side. its been like this ever since then. its really really painful and its a nightmare to eat anything due to me not bein able to clench my teeth together.
my jaw doesnt click when i open my mouth, its just a sharp pain like something is wrong with my jaw on the right hand side.
it could be my wisdom tooth coming through but it seems odd that its my jaw thats hurting and not my gums (if this is the reason)

any ideas??

hi,

To be honest I'm not sure what it could be but when I started getting my wisdom teeth through I actually got earache as well as pains (really bad) in my jaw so it could be your wisdom teeth. Hope it gets better soon
sounds like what i had for six months...its called TMJ...its usually caused by stress making u clench or grind ur teeth in ur sleep and therefore puts so much pressure on ur jaw it starts spasming....go see ur dentist...if it is TMJ then he can make u whats known as a "bite splint" to keep ur teeth apart at nite (a bit like a retainer but harder).

do it quickly...i left it a long time until it was so painful i couldnt open my mouth to brush my teeth and was screaming in agony...i did so much damage that i had to have three months of physio...it still hurts if i eat alot of chewy sweets...so the sooner u get it sorted the better

When top left wisdom tooth stared to come through - my Jaw left hand side, really ached for a while. I couldn't open my mouth very wide & found it hard to eat. But that passed after a few days - wasn't a sharp pain though.

Maybe take some Ibuprofen, that may help the pain. If it goes on for much longer - i would go see your gp / dentist.

Hopefully it's only your wisdom teeth coming through.
TMJ isnt serious...its very easily reversable...as long as u get it seen to quickly...even then it wont do u any real long term damage.

Its extremely commong among girls in their late teens and early twenties especially if theyre like me and highly strung...i was an extreme case...few people need physio to the extend i did but i was so bad and stressed out (i had alot of personal problems and was going through a-levels at the time) that when i couldnt do it at nite i started doing it during the day instead...

i had the added problem of my wisdom teeth coming through right on my jaw bone too. i was an exteme case...most cases are fixed with a bite splint for a couple of months or possibly even weeks...

but the best advice is to book an appointment with ur dentist ASAP
