Well, those are lovely combinations. Have a nice time. ;-)

hey everyone! Well done P05 and all the others who got in. Good luck and hope you guys have fun. make sure to post something on the first day  as for me, I got the waiting list so I guess I will have to continue waiting a little longer until the final results. I just wish I could have an outright yes or no- at the moment I'm floating in the middle of the two; i feel in such a precarious position, it could still go either way for me. I, too cannot help but feel annoyed at myself!

Well at least you still got a chance to get a place! It's still pretty impressive if you got on the waiting list! Just out of curiosity does anyone have any idea how many people are put on the waiting list and if the list is ranked? and How many people get through from the list? My friend is on the list soo she really want to know this. Thanks!

If I'm not told in the letter, I'm going to call them and see if they tell me. Wilbsz has told me that he knows two students in his year who had been on the waiting list last year.

Well surely there must be more people than two who are offered a place who were originally on the waiting list. Earlier on this thread,I think someone said about 15 people decline an offer so those places must be offered to the waiting list group? :s-smilie: All the best rupertj, i'm sure it will work out well. btw what subjects did you take?

Reply 765

Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics. How about you?

Reply 766

Wow, those are 'clever' subjects! You should be very happy to have come this far in such competetive fields. I took exams in French, Spanish, History and Biology.
I phoned Westminster today to enquire if those who are on the waiting list can have any indication if we will be offered a place before Dec 15th, and they replied that we just have to sit tight and wait; but Highgate are waiting for my reply and i fear that it will be too late! Are you applying anywhere else?

I actually got a place at the N London Collegiate and I know it is an AMAZING school academically and one can argue that it is a better school than Westminster. but I went to both Westminster and collegiate's opendays. Both were amazing but to me westminster seemed more like a school because Collegiate was more like an informal study centre than a proper school. Also it's easier to commute to Westminster than Collegiate anyway since I live just 5 tube stops away. but I have to say Collegiate's admission procedure is more thorough than Westminster and Collegiate did not offer me a bursary unlike Westminster.

I'm meant to submit an application to CLSB this week.

Did the school tell you anything about the waiting list? (e.g. is it ranked, how many people are offered places from it...)

oh well done flowermonster, thats a fantastic achievement! I was going to try out for NLCS but decided against it, as for me coeducation in the VI Form is one of the main reasons for choosing Westminster. I have lots of friends who will be joining NLCS in Sept 09', so maybe you will see them there (if that is the school you choose ofcourse). Contrary to your initial impression, I don't think it's informal at all. Well ok, its not built totally on tradition and history as Westminster is, but it is still an amazing school with lots of opportunities within the classroom and in extracurricular activities too. I've also heard that its a great school to do your A Levels in -although the final decision must be completely yours. Good luck anyways, I'm sure everyone who got to even the interview stage of Westminster are very intelligent people and will do well wherever they end up

Nope. I specifically asked those questions and they said that they were not able to give me any information on my position on the waiting list or even if it is ranked at all or how many are offered a place from the waiting list. Although she was very sympathetic to my situation, she could give me no additional information, it is simply a waiting game now.

Well, I've got my fingers crossed for the next week!

Reply 771

well that fact that you're on the waiting list means you are good enough to be in Westminster but because of the number of spaces available, they're not able to offer you a place.
btw I will be going to Westminster in Sep 09 not NLCS. Although I feel completely guilty because the teachers at NLCS were really nice!

Reply 772

This is doing my head in:mad: , how long are they going to make us wait?! I can't take it anymore!!

Hopefully it will be tomorrow, I need to know how much the bursary is!

Reply 773

well when your parents met the person dealing with bursary, didnt they say how much they needed?

If westminster is going to offer you a place, surley they would offer the amount of bursay that your parents requested otherwise they know you cant accept the place. Try calling them, that's how I found about the bursary amount they were offering me.

Reply 774

I did call and they said that the amount will only be disclosed in the letter. :frown:
Flowermonster, when did you find out the amount of bursary you were offered?
And, not trying to be (too) nosey, can you give me an idea of the amount you were offered?
I don't think I can attend with less than 75% off :frown:

Reply 775

Well I told them about my situation with NLCS and I HAD to know so that I could make my decision.
Well apparently the whole bursary thing is classified as 'Confidential' so NO teachers, housemasters or anyone will know you have a bursary. Only a very few will know who has a bursary.
The person I was talking to said that she doesnt know the information and only her other collegue will have the information. So I said I really needed to know! She said she will contact the person. After 2 hours the man called and I explained my situation all over(!) he was very simpathetic and told me this is against their policy but in such extreme situations exceptions can be made. He told me to call on a more 'secure line' and it was then when he told me. I needed 40% and they gave me 40%!

Like I said, if your parents asked for 75% and you got a place, then they will give you 75%! I couldn't attend even if it was 35% and NLSC didnt even offer me one anyway.

Reply 776

Wow, I'm desperate, but I wouldn't call it an "extreme circumstance". Well, thanks for your help, I guess I'll have to sit and wait this out!

Reply 777

yeah I know how it feels...but there's nothing we can do now. just have to wait...

Reply 778

Does anyone know when we will recieve the letters? I hope it's tomorrow, it really is a pain waiting..

Although i know i'm on the waiting list, I'm hoping there will be some extra information about ranking etc...

Reply 779

I got my letter just now, but it wasn't very informative.
