Senior is for like grade 13 or soemthing . I find it very tough too. I doubt the entrance paper tomorrow will be like the math challenge papers

I am barely capable of meeting the requirement if the paper is really modeled after the senior paper (50% for candidates doing single math). However the other subjs may affect... :frown:

Anyway, off to bed now and 10 hours later it's either hit or miss! :frown:

So if we're sitting the further maths paper do we get to leave at 1:00?

Reply 1806

How clever are you guys? I have this feeling that everyone there will be geniuses in MENSA and stuff.
Oh and good luck!

Reply 1807

I'm not that clever. I just hope they will see my passion and potential in the exam and hopefully it will get me through.

Word of advice,
I sat the exams last year and was really nervous beforehand. I messed up the maths paper and by the time I got to the history paper I pretty much given up (as I knew there was no hope :colondollar:). I probably would have got in had I not been nervous.

So yeah, chill out a bit before hand. As you can't really revise specifically for the exams, you're relying on your natural abaility and that won't come through if you're all stressy and tense.

Good luck :h: Any questions, feel free to ask :moon:

How was the maths? What type of questions were there?

The content itself really isn't that complicated, doesn't go beyond GCSE. However the questions are quite wordy in some cases and it's hard to finish in the time.

What subjects did you do and how did they all go? What sort of questions came up? Do you remember any specifically?

I did Maths, Further Maths (Same exam as maths), Economics and History (massive mistake, didn't even end up doing it for A level in the end). Economics was quite easy, there was a few general current affair type questions, a longer essay question and a graph interpretation question. Maths was bad, I normally don't have a problem with maths challenge type questions but for some reason I panicked and forgot most things :colondollar:. Timing was an issue. History was a disaster, lots was on middle ages religious stuff, didn't understand the sources, left most questions blank :p:. If you're good at source interpretation it won't be that bad, however.

Oh so did you get in? I'm doing Maths, Further maths, Physics and Chemistry. I don't know what will come up in the sciences so I'm quite worried. I hope I get it, but if I don't, I won't be too disappointed because there are many people from around the world applying.

Nah, just wearing casual, but not scruffy clothes.

Nope. My shocking maths attempt and me giving up on the history explains that :p:.

Good luck :h:

Damn, I'd say I'm ok at Maths, but I'm terrible at timed conditions! D:

Nope...my school uniform looks horrendous...it's also half the world away. I'm dressing semiformal tomorrow, since I have no clue what to expect.

The entrance exams will require rather specific preparation (I don't go there, but I go to a very similar school, and I did qualify for Westminster on the 11+).

As far as grades are concerned, here's the thing. Like me, you seem to have a penchant for taking exams early: 12 GCSEs by the end of Year 9? That's more than I had! Now, your grades in those subjects are currently well below those of the average student who actually gets in (they will have something like 8 A*s and 2 As on average), but the way I see it, you have another 2 years to get yourself up to this standard! Here's what you need to do:

1. I notice you want to take French at A-Level and yet you got a B in the GCSE. That one factor will stop you from getting in (most likely); you'll absolutely need an A* in every subject you're planning to take at A-Level.

2. Look at your A grades, revise for them one by one and carefully, resit and get remarks if necessary. Do you very best to get them up to an A*. Same for the B grades; turn as many of them into As as you possibly can (and, like I said, definitely turn the French B into an A*). You want to be applying with around 8-9 A*s and the rest As.

Even then, keep in mind what I said about the entrance exams. They'll be an important factor, and you'll need to succeed in them regardless of how good your GCSEs are.
