HI! I am stuck on the flows topic. When a cut is taken in a network and the value of the cut is required to be found, the flows must go from X to Y, so some flows not representing this direction are excluded. BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND IT, SO PLEASE HELP!

    ok how about this:
you want to know how much can flow from source to sink.
Look at the diagram and look at the ´pipes´ the cut crosses.
Now consider if you take the pipes flowing in the direction from source to sink and imagine combining them together into a big fat pipe flowing the way you want.(Nqote you dont care about the others as they are not going the right way)What would its maximum capacity be ?
That is all there is to it.
    Hope it helps
