Nah, it really doesn't hurt at all, I have to have one every few weeks. Hope it goes okay.

No, they don't hurt. Every time I have one (which is quite often) I always look away. Makes it more bearable! You might end up with a little bruise, but that's all. I had a blood test yesterday from both arms and my arms are fine today, so don't worry!

Dont worry about it! itll be over before you know it..x

and how they do it......

they rub a little bit of disinfectant (or is it antiseptic?) on the area, then tighten this piece of material round the top of your arm (like when taking your blood pressure) and then they insert the needle, take the blood and then put cotton wool over the tiny tiny cut. sorry for the bad explanation! hope that makes some sense though

Easy ... I won't hurt, you have my word ... When a mosquito bites you its hurts more than that ... :P
They aren't lovely, but just like a sharp prick and it's a bit sore, nothing major.
I don't look forward to them, but there's worse things than that.

Oh and they do it on the inside of your elbow (the crease)

i've never had one and never want to, have a massive fear of veins blood and needles..... :frown:

jab yourself with a thick sewing pin, cause thats all it is, if your feeling squemish, dont watch as the needle goes in or out, nor the blood pissing out into the vial, bout 10 secs and its all over, just take it easy, the worse thing you can do is stress about it

Not at all lol (to quote everyone else from above). If you don't have a fear of needles, it's nothing. I used to, and then after I developed this problem where no doctor could find a decent vein to prick (resulting in a lot of pricking) I kind of got over it. Not that that was helpful info...I'm just saying.

If you look away, you shouldn't have any problem at all. Hope everything goes ok!

Also, my sister has had a couple. She said they were fine - and she hates needles. (she's only 11)

i had to have one today.
i am very squeamish, and just thinking about it makes me feel faint.

I actually almost started crying when i was waiting to have it done.
ahh.
but the nurse was really nice about it, she just told me to look away, and literally you feel a scratch [tiny pain] when it goes in, and then nothing after.

it was fine [=

no need to stress!

Reply 15

no, they dont hurt, just a wee scratch as the needle goes in and thats it

Reply 16

As someone who has had at least 20 blood tests done on me, I will tell you a little secret. Have you ever been bitten by a wasp? Or maybe been cut a little bit using a knife? Well, rest assured, a needle prick is nothing worse than that. On the contrary it's short and very quickly the pain goes. See, the needle will go through your skin, then reach the vein, and you feel real pain ONLY when a major nerve has been damaged (or touched by the needle) The good thing is that there are no major nerve where the nurse will draw out the blood, so you need not worry about it at all.
As for me, I've been having blood tests almost every month for 5 months last year, and I don't feel anything at all.
The first time round you'll feel just a tiny prick, nothing really bad. Just think that no nerves are being touched so you can't get really bad pain, okie?
And do buckle up, wear short sleeved shirts, don't try to cringe or tense your arm or move it around. It's over in just 10 seconds, so don't worry!!!
