Please help me to find out grammatical mistake in the following sentence:-

The broken bottles and burned papers were littered in the area out side the station like a war zone.

Burnt would sound better. Although burned is acceptable, it's more commonly used in America.

If you're allowed to do a reshuffle-

Like a war zone, the broken bottles and burned papers were littered in the area outside.

maybe...

I'd go with that if you were able to jumble it.

To the original poster, gramatically, you shouldn't have the space between "out" and "side".
