I got offered a place for pharmacy through clearing at university of Hertfordshire. I have never been to the uni, but wanted to know maybe from someone who studies pharmacy there or any other applicants for this year, what its like and where you're applying for accommodation.

I applied for pharmaceutical science through clearing so I guess it's the same thing. I went to an open day for clearing applicants on Saturday and we had a tour of the campus and the department of pharmacy and pharmaceutical science. I applied for accommodation yesterday, mainly ensure and self catered accommodation. Have you been to visit the university yet?

I think I'm going to go on Friday, what did you think of the uni and what was the accommodation like? I spoke to the admissions for pharmacy and she said accommodation was first come first serve on what's left, so I don't really want to end up with somewhere rubbish.

Accommodation was really decent, their building a new block of accommodation which will be ready by September. The campus was really good, the buildings were modern too. There will be a new science building which we will use in September hopefully. Really diverse university too. They have a building called the forum where socialising take place-restaurant, cafe etc. The library is absolutely huge. I spoke to one of the lecturers for pharmaceutical science who mentioned that due to overlap of some content between pharmacy and pharmaceutical science, students will be placed together in lectures and seminars.

Hey,

If you don't get all your questions answered just pop us a message in our inbox and we'll get back to you. We're really excited about our new Science Building. It should mean more cross collaboration between all our Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biomedical Science etc. expertise and it's all naturally lit so should be a really good space for your labs!

The new accommodation should also be open later this year and it is first come first serve. If you come to an open day tomorrow or Friday you can come and see it all for yourself.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Hey,

Doing a Masters of Pharmacy (4 years) allows you to become a qualified Pharmacist (after passing the pre-registration year after the course). There are many places Pharmacists may work, but mostly they work with patients either in the community, where you take your prescription from the doctor, or in hospitals.
Usually the entry requirements for Pharmacy are higher (around 320 UCAS points). Pharmacy is also governed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPHC) so all Pharmacists are covering the same topics and maintain standards in the profession.

Pharmaceutical Science is about the formulation, development and manufacturing of drugs and medicines. Typically you might work in the Pharmaceutical Industry at companies such as GSK, Johnson and Johnson or Pfizer.

It is really up to the individual as to what suits you more!

Hope that helps!
