fiesta vs corsa-c

im looking to get a small car, been thinkin about either 04/05 ford fiesta zetec climate or the vauxhaull corsa design/sxi.

i have around £5k to spend.

which car would you reccomend? i had a look at the polo, 03 models, but i dont likfe the front grill and head lights, plus quite expensive second hand compared to the others.

Im 18, bin drivin for just under a year, and jus lukin for a car which looks good, drives well, secure and safe, low insurance, is economical and reliable.

Thanks for any helpp!

For me, with that budget (presumming you're looking at supermini-sized cars) I'd be looking at the current Seat Ibiza (Just not the 1.2), the current Fiesta, maybe the previous clio in 16v form - not a big fan of Corsas myself.

ive seen a Fiesta 53 plate 1.4 Zetec 5 door with A/C with only 7k on the clock for £5799, slightly over budget, but very low mileage.

this is from a car supermarket btw.

do you think this is a good deal?

How much is very low milleage? If its something like 5 or 10k you might have a lot problems with it due to short run syndrome as the oil will never have got upto the correct temperature.

Yeh I'd rather have a car with FSH and average miles than really low miles tbh for reasons AT just stated.

Good luck getting a current Ibiza for 5k! The 1.4 at 3 years old starts at around 6-7k 3 years old.

Nevertheless, an Ibiza is a very good car

Out of your two choices, i would say go for the Fiesta.

My mistake, looking at it now all the models under £5.5k are 1.2s or have massive mileages.
Not sure how the previous model compares? Definately not such a good-looking car though.

yeaa the seat ibiza is nice car, based on the vw polo, but you're right, the previous models don't look as great.

The Fiesta was a completely new model, so probably more up to date(?) than the Corsa in terms of design, safety, extras etc.

go for the corsa, ive got it and i think its great. my friend has the fiesta and i think its too big tbh (deff compared to the earlier model).

If it was my money It'd go on the Corsa C.

why does noone ever look at interesting cars on this forum? :frown:

Because we want reliable, safe, popular first cars. (I'm guesing that is true for the majority of people) not old nails of V8s with a minus safety rating

I beg to differ :eyeball:
I would ask the same, but I realise most students don't have £20k to burn without thinking of insurance.
Your MG is 'interesting', but something that most people (not being mechanically savvy) wouldn't dare go for.

Anyway - Corsa C. Have you seen the interior of a Fiesta? Its more plastic that Anna Nicole -

Yeah the MK6 Fiesta is a real disappointment in that area, it feels cheap and bland. Even the Suzuki Swift is better in this regard, it seems Ford are going back to their early 90's ways :frown:

Safety is one thing I like about my Fiesta, the design itself has always scored highly for its generation and it comes standard with seatbelt pretensioners, airbag and side impact bars, but I wouldn't like to go on the motorway in it.

The MGB was actually the safest car of its type in the 60's and 70's and was designed to protect passengers in a 30mph head on collision, you can't say that about cars back then.

PS If this was my money I would got for a 2001/2002 Clio or 206 without a doubt. They are some how more interesting than either of the two.

That wasnt an invite to make digs at my car... Although, all of my classics will run rings around your little chav-sa.
I just dont see why people can't look past the a-typical hatch back shopping trolley. Cripes the world has more to offer than corsa's, fiestas and clio's.

I bought a Fiesta because the they are so common, I know if I need a new back box it will cost me £50 including labour, a new coil pack is £20 etc.

Insurance is also a major issue here.

We don't all know how to rebuild engines etc

Perhapse its just me then...
If I were looking for a first modern car I think i'd be looking at something like
Alfa 156
Audi A4
Landrover Defender
MG ZS
MG ZT
Range rover Vogue
Skoda octavia
Volvo C70 / V70

Just something a little different and a little more interesting/unusual

Are you rich then? Do you have any idea how much them cars cost to insure? Even my dads escort woulds have e cost me £1600 compared to £650 for my fiesta to insure.

Also some of them cars you list are very expensive to buy.

Alfa 156 yes fine if you can afford the insurance the new the engine it will need every 5000 miles :p:

Audi 4 - boring crap far too expensive for what they are

Landrover Defender - Not modern

MG ZS and ZT - too expensive for a first car and nobody can afford the insurance unless they are rich
Range Rover Vogue - First car? What planet are you on?
Skoda Octavia - Decent cars, similar to the A4 but less common and much cheaper to buy. Maybe worth looking at.
Volvo C70/V70 - Too expensive to insure for a first car, and also too big.

If you say so.

Audi A4 - boring crap far too expensive for what they are
Ever driven one to make this comment? Id hardly call sub 2k expensive

Landrover Defender - Not modern
They still build them so disagree.

MG ZS and ZT - too expensive for a first car and nobody can afford the insurance unless they are rich
£5k ish. again, hardly massive expenditure. You must go to some strange insurance companies. :s-smilie:

Range Rover Vogue - First car? What planet are you on?
Same one as you. I looked at a few 1980's modles before I bought the B

Volvo C70/V70 - Too expensive to insure for a first car, and also too big.
Even mice and acorns must seem big when you step out of a fiesta shoe-box.
I had a volvo 740 for a few weeks and I didnt have a problem.
