Depression and the pill

How long should it take the effects of one pill to wear off when you start a new type? I was on microgynon (sp?) for 3 months then switched to cilest last week as it had made me really really depressed (definitely know it was the pill that did this). I started taking cilest on saturday (having taken the last other one on the previous day), and on monday I felt so much better. But then on tuesday I felt bad again, and have since, which really sucks as I thought I was better.

So how long should it be taking for the depression to go? Cos I really can't stand it much longer. :frown:

P.S. Mods please don't move this to the contraception questions thead as it always takes absolutely ages for a reply there if you get one at all. :frown:

I would have thought that it shouldn't take too long. Keep going with it for the next few days, and if you're still feeling down by tuesday/wednesday next week, go back to your GP.

I've just started taking microgynon because of bad PMT and not experienced any problems, but not everyone experiences the same side effects.

Try taking Evening Primrose Oil tablets as well, as they may help and won't affect the pill. I would suggest St John's Wort, but that makes the pill less effective as contraception.

i asked my GP about this, because i had problems on cerazette. the GP said that the hormones from the pill are out of your system within 24 hours, and so any symptoms that the pill causes should be gone by then.
have you considered that the onset of you feeling down may have just happened to coincide with you taking the pill? do you have any other reason to feel down or depressed?
also, perhaps cilest could be having the same effect on you.
like Louenn said, leave it a week or so, then go back to your GP. hope you feel better soon. xx.

Cilest made me depressed too. I only changed on to it from Marvelon because I started getting really bad acne, but I changed back to Marvelon at the start of last year because of the depression. All I had to do was finish the packet I was on, take my pill free week, and then start back on the Marvelon. It may be different as I was returning to a pill I knew I had no side affects from.

I'm not saying its a common side affect of cilest, btw, it just aggravated my already diagnosed depression.
