Do girls get crushes on guys they've never spoken to

I've noticed a growing trend that girls seem to get crushes on me despite me never speaking to them. One example is a girl in my school who keeps staring at me. I'm not talking about the occasional glance I mean straight up staring and not breaking eye contact which I find rather uncomfortable.

I noticed another girl behave similar to this. At first I just ignored it but then one day I was sitting down minding my own business and I heard her refer to me as 'bae'.

I've noticed it's only the really hot girls who seem to behave like this and I'm not quite sure how to feel about it.

So my question is do girls get crushes on guys they've never spoken to and if so why?
