How long are u there for,at a time ?
I don't think it's dangerous - but i may be wrong

i think the reccommended is no more than 5x a week, a session being 1/2 an hour of you at 80% of your maximum heart rate... but thats only cardiovascular... if ur doing weights, im not sure...

I'd listen to what your body says. If you're feeling aching each time you go to the gym, you need more time off between visits. If you feel fine, you body's coping

TBH, I'm finding I feel much less tired during the day than when i used to just go 3 times a week

I read that you should do an hour's excercise a day.

You could always hang out with friends or learn to play an instrument if you are short of ideas to fill the void.
Or maybe do some work for the course.... just kidding

Yes, I mainly do that stuff in the evenings, leaving gym, work and the occaisional lecture 4 the daytime

I've been working out an hour, 6 times a week for the past 3/4 years (I do have my usual lapses now and again...I'm only human, not a machine!). It hasn't done me any harm, infact, its done me great!... it probably does depend on what exactly it is you, i.e, cardio, weights, swimming etc.

Also, you're at uni 9 hours a week, but surely a lot of the "free-time" is independent study time? So you shouldn't really be that bored, surely?

when I opened this thread I expected you to say you were pushing old people down in the street or pleasuring yourself manically...

anyway, more to the point, i reckon as boredom relief tactics go thats not an unhealthy one. i'm exactly the same, i go to the gym 5-6 times a week, sometimes everyday and feel only good from it. just don't overexert yourself.

a bit off your actual question i know, but i only have 9 hours a week lectures too, but am expected to spend the majority of my days working and studying (the fact that i'm on tsr instead is something i'm just glossing over!) maybe you should check your department's independant study policy if you have that much spare time!

Reply 13

I think it would be more effective if you have resting days in between.

Reply 14

I wish I had the energy to do that - all I do is sleep

I'm finding i get quite bored during the day as I only have about 9 hrs in uni a week. So ive started going to the gym 6 times a week; and somebody just told me thats harmful, is it??

Um, yes. You are supposed to go about 3 times a week, max. Otherwise there might be unpleasant consequences... look them up if you are interested in what might happen to you.

Only if you overexert yourself though.

I'm also doing the same (although not from boredom), and i'm not going to the gym every day, but im working out every day (such as free weights/training, running, and martial arts).. What I tend to do so as not to destroy my body is to alternate parts of my body i'm working with.

Such as one day work on your arms and shoulders, the next day your abs and chest, the next day your legs and back, etc etc. This way you can do quite a bit, but not completely destroy yourself. Make sure to take at least one day off though - a little bit of rest goes a long way
