They look hot though, much better than scruffy hoodies, people who make an effort and dress up are instantly more attractive than those who make no effort

not really, they just look stupid imo. They look cold and like impractical, unforward-thinking (sorry, can't think of a better word) people. I think practicality and intelligence is an important factor in attractiveness.
here we go - townies vs alternatives - deary me.

"alternatives" are idiots too. They try and look different and all end up looking exactly the same, like them 15yr old emo kids, cept with £15 belts, £45 trousers, £20 tops and £50 hoodies. Idiots the lot of them.

then if you dislike both townies and alternatives, what would you suggest?
hippy attire?

you know i was using "alternative" loosely to cover a wide genre - goth (all types - cybergoths, renaissance goths, pvc goths), glammy, sk8r, punk, etc.

and townie as in those that wear short skirts and high heels to go clubs, that kinda thing.

HIPPIES?!! :eek: ;no;

I know you was, point is they all look the same as each other. They all get their clothes from them same "alternative" (read middle clarse overly expensive rubbish) shops.

I personally find clothes from Next and Fat Face work well for me... Nothing too extreme, just classy, cool and comfortable

Most important things are to take ID, don't be shy and drink a couple of shots or similar when you first come in so that you don't get freaked out when drunk people start getting close. Oh, and don't leave your ID in the cloakroom  Most places won't ID you on the bar once you've got past the bouncers but better to be prepared.

Don't even think about freezing your arse off and not taking a coat, though, just to save on the £1 or so it costs for using the cloakroom. I see girls doing this ALL the time (usually just because they think a coat doesn't look good with their outfit), and believe me, I'd rather pay the quid and have my outfit temporarily covered up, than look as freezing as they do.

Brings back memories of queuing up outside the local club for the unders' night in a miny skirt and skimpy top in around Feb, in the icy cold wind and specs of rain, for an hour.

Dude, you had to wait for another hour inside to put your coat away!

I wouldn't recommoned it.

Hey, I'm 19 and am going to go clubbing soon. Now, I've never been clubbing before because it didn't really appeal to me but have decided to go with some friends just to see what it's like. What are your experiences? Is a casual shirt and jeans ok to wear? Is it true a lot of people go just to get off with someone? Am I one of the few 19 year olds who don't go clubbing?

Reply 33

Some clubs have dress codes but shirt & jeans should be fine - most places don't like trainers.

I suppose a lot of people do go just to get off with someone but that's up to them, I'm sure it won't bother/affect you as you can normally spot those people a mile off! Obviously it depends on the club too but I think you get people like that all over.

1) depends what kind of club you're going to, i prefer the alternative clubs around here, so what you wear isn't as much of an issue where as if you go to amore trendy club they often have dress codes (like no sportswear etc)

2)If you like alcohol then getting drunk is a good way to get through the night :p: although unless you're going to a student clubnight prepre to pay STUPID amounts of money for drinks

3)shirt and jeans will be fine, as i said before tho fins out if they have a dresscode-you might have to wear shoes.

4)No its not true that a lot of people go just to pull someone-most go to just have a laugh and have a good night with friends..besides the quality of people you pull in clubs is always questionable the next day!

5) the first time i went to a club was when i went to uni, so you're not the only 19 year old never to have gone clubbing

and finally a few tips for getting served quicker/not pissing off the bar staff:
*do NOT wave your money around in the faces of the bar staff-this is guarenteed to not get you served quicker
*do NOT click your fingers, or clap your hands to get our attention-we can see you fine and we're going to serve you soon-so don't treat us like slaves
*shouting abuse/maoning about waiting to get served/shouting your order at us whilst we're serving someone else-these things will also not get you served any quicker
*and if you put your coat in the cloakroom for the love of god don't lose your ticket then give the staff grief cos you can't get your coat till the end of the night

ok ...hopefully that will help you prepare yourself for your first clubbing expereince!

Basically like has already been said, you are best not wearing trainers or sportswear, but other than that its up to you! Jeans and a shirt is fine.

Some people do go out just to get off with someone, but most people don't, and those that do you can generally tell who they are and just avoid them!

I know a fair few 19 year olds who havn't been clubbing, or who don't like it really and don't go much.

One other point - make sure you take some ID with you, most if not all places seem to have a policy of you having to look over 21 otherwise you get ID'ed. Even if you do look old enough they will often ask the whole group for ID if a couple of people look younger.

:dito: very good point! always always always take id-if you don't take any then get id...don't bitch about it after  cos its your own fault!
