Uh Embarassing Ulcer

Right this is pretty embarassing but searching on the net for stuff isn't really giving me anything.

This morning I noticed I had what I'd called a small white ulcery thing on the inside of my outer labia. It's not painful unless I knock it i.e after I've been to the toilet and the pain goes away quickly.

Searching on the internet has thrown stuff up like genital herpes but it doesn't really look like any of the photos ... plus I really don't know where I'd have got it from? I've been with my boyfriend for 4 months and before we started sleeping together I got tested for STIs (although I'm not sure if they test for herpes if they can't visibly see anything?). Plus there's only one lesion.

I've never had anything like this before and it's freaking me out a bit to be honest ... I mean is it possible to just get an ulcer down there like you'd get one in your mouth?

So embarassed! Was thinking about going to the doctors but being friday I doubt I'd get an appointment until after the weekend.

Definitely go to the doctor. If you want an urgent appointment and they try to turn you down, persist. It works.

Yeah, try the doctors. God knows why they close on weekends, people don't just suddenly stop needing medical attention on those two days!

(Yes, I know they need their free time, but couldn't there be doctors specifically working the weekend or something?)

Oh actually.....you could phone the NHS helpline. They're pretty good.

You say you got an STI before you started sleeping with your bf.. did he?

Reply 6

NHS Direct would be best since GPs like having the weekend off

I hope you just missed the test out there! haha.
No he didn't because he's only slept with one other person and they were both virgins ... and wouldn't he know if he had herpes?

It doesn't hurt at all now ... and no more have appeared ... will ring the doctors on Monday though if it's still there.

Ulcers or sores are usually associated with syphilis, get it checked out and treated asap and once you knwo what it is i'd let your boyfriend know.

There are out of hours services for emergencies. But this isn't one. Certainly should be seen soon though.

Syphilis. Hate to cause a panic but I'm doing a project on it (4 x 1000 word essays and producing a leaflet) for college and its not pretty! (sorry i said easy my fella walked in the room distracting me - freudian slip). You get sores which look like ulcers on your bits to start with and then it can spread. It's fine if caught early so if it is what you've got you'll be ok!

Doctor, asap! Call the helpline and see what they say.

Syphilis was one thing I thought of but I know I tested negative for it ... so I don't see where it would have come from :frown: ... I've been looking at the incubation period and it says up to 90 days so I would have had to got it off my boyfriend if I had got it ... but surely if he had it he would have had the symptoms already? Oh I'm so confused ...

Don't worry about where it came from for now, get it checked out first. If it turns out to be sypilis, then start wondering, if not, well you don't need to wonder. But yes, ring NHS direct and see a doctor asap, just in case.

Symptoms can take 3-6 months to come up normaly so theres a period where it's not visible. I get tested regularly because people can't be trusted to be faithful and also it's better to know quickly.

Just because you think your boyfriend looks clean doesn't mean he is. I don't wanna sound like I hate men or anything but seriously, look out for yourself

Thanks for your help so far.

So even though it can take 3-6 months to show if I got tested 4 months ago and the result can back negative is it safe to say I didn't have it back then? If I evern have it all that is. Fingers crossed I don't. Is there anything characteristic I could look for?

Also is there anything else it could be? I mean could I have just caught myself somehow and damaged the skin?

I can sense you are not really too keen on seeing a doctor. I feel that way most of the time, but you should really see one. This is not an area to mess around with.

It could be a wart, it could just be a spot/boil (you can get them anywhere) or lots of other things apart from syphilis. Just go and get it checked and you'll be able to sort it out.

Ha ha Helenia is so right, we're probably putting the fear of God in you with all this talk of disease!

If it helps I once had a little sore on that area and it cleared up with some savlon (it was only there for like two days), I've seen been tested for STDs and I'm fine
