AS and A2 Certificates

When it comes to receiving the certificates in October, are the AS and A2 certificates separate, or together? Also, what do the certificates look like?

You'll get your AS certificant after taking the module to qualify for your AS. You will get your A Leve certificate once you have completed AS and A2.

They will be exam board certificates, very much like the GCSE ones, except with the word "Secondary" removed from them.

Each exam board will issue a certificate.

Will AS and A Level be on the same certificate, - I believe if you "claim" an AS and an A-Level in the same session, they will appear on that exam board's certificate.

My mate for example collected her AS Physics at the end of Year 12, and got her certificate for that (OCR) that October. She completed her A2 Chemistry (OCR) this June, and will get a seperate certificate for that, this October.

Ahhh, I see... so there are two separate certificates which each have GCE at the top, followed by Advanced Subsidary or Advanced Two...

I just got my AS certificates and I'm totally confused. I declined my grades in chem and history so I could resit a module this summer, yet I got certificates in these but not for english, where I didn't do resits or decline my grade.

I'd inform your centre if I was you. From what I've been told, you need to hand in your certificates for the grade to be declined. If you've got yours back, you may not have declined the grade.

I did all 6 modules in maths at once. So do I get an AS as well as A level certificate?

I would have thought you'd only get an A Level certificate.

That can't be true, because some (few) people don't do A2's because they quit after AS's for some reason. This would mean they get no certificates for what they've done! And what about the subjects people drop after AS? Surely you want a certificate for your achievement in them!! AS's are supposed to be considered in their own right except for when they merge with A2's to make a full A level. I think so anyway :smile:

Your statement of results will show an AS result, and an A Level result in the event you wish to claim your AS, retaking some A2 units.

If you decide to claim your A Level, you will get an A Level certificate in October.

Let's say someone gets a B for their AS and an E overall for their A2. If that person only got one certificate saying they'd achieved an E grade, I'd imagine that they'd be quite annoyed.

What's more, an A2 grade E is worth 40 UCAS points whereas an AS grade B is worth 50.
