    In a Hypertonic solution, the concentration of water is less than that of the other liquid.

    In a Hypotonic solution, the concentration of water is greater than that of the other liquid.

    So, in osmosis, in hypotonic solutions, water enters the cell and in hypertonic, water leaves the cell?

    osmosis: high->low concentrations..

    so if something with a high water concentration was put into a hypertonic solution, the water particles would move into the hypertonic solution by osmosis..and vice versa.

    what's an example of something that has a higher concentration than water? (i assume we mean water potential by concentration.. can't really think what other concentration water has!)

    Salt water is hypertonic to pure water.

    1M salt water is hypotonic to 2M salt water.

    okay, that makes sense to me, it's just the other person who posted referenced both hypo and hypertonic with respect to water
