Never Mind The Buzzcocks - Preston episode

Maybe this has been discussed before on TSR, but i can't find the thread...

I think Amstell is a talented guy BUT he overstepped the mark in this episode of NMTB. He came across as bullying, and not so much in the jokey, mock-bullying sense, but it was quite nasty IMO. Preston seems a decent bloke and credit to him for doing what he felt was obviously the right thing to do, and walk offstage, in protest as such. Amstell was overly aggressive IMO, quite a turn-off watching him behave like that. He had something in for Preston from the very start and he went OTT with the abuse....

your opinions...???

Yes, one should perhaps be expected to self-deprecate on occasions, but on this occasion, that would be asking far too much of Preston....

Fair play to Preston, I honestly don't think much of Chantelle, but its his wife, and anyone in a relationship would not like their other half to just stand there while they're being mocked. At least he's willing to act when someone offends him, and speak his mind. I actually have new found respect for the bloke.

Amstell is just being like most comedians, funny but at times a bit of a ****.

Just watched it on TV, and thought it was a pretty funny episode. I'm really liking Simon Amstell atm, and didn't think his comments were too over the mark. It's a comedy show, they're bound to make fun of the contestants (though fair enough, it was his wife and some of the comments did have a nasty bullying undertone to them). Still, its tame compared to stuff like Have I Got News For You . . .
We have discussed this episode already. I guess whilst I've been watching Al Murray's Happy Hour you've been watching the repeat of NMTB.

My opinion of Preston wasn't helped within the first 2 1/2 minutes of the episode, when he clearly couldn't take the standard banter during the team introductions he just sulked and came across as miserable - after that I'm afraid he was always going to get a ribbing.

He should know what NMTB is like, the celeb guests get the mickey taken... if he didn't think he was going to be able to take it he shouldn't have agreed to be on the show.

It made interesting TV and the improv nature of Bill Bailey to go fetch someone from the crowd was good. I'd argue that this edition wasn't as good however as the "Donny making himself look a fool whilst he's oblivious to everyone taking the mick out of him..." one last week.

See my post above #3 has three links to the whole lot.

The repeat was not on here (I pick up from a Welsh transmitter here in Chester and BBC2 are showing Welsh Open Snooker at the mo)

I thought Preston would walk off because Simon said something really horrible to him and yet all he did was read a few lines from his wife's book

He should've expected to get ripped into going on a show like that, to be honest if I were in his situation I probably would've been abit pissed off too (it's easier to take it if someone is taking the piss out of you but not someone else who is close to you) but it's NMTB, you just gotta go with it or atleast retaliate with a retort but then again Preston probably isn't witty enough anyway. Donny got it worse and even he tried, rather than trotting off like some angry little toddler.
Preston was annoying me from the start to be honest. What's the point of going on to a comedy quiz show just to be a sulky bastard? He should have known what to expect. It's obvious that if you arn't extremely talented/respected a lot then you will be a target in that show. I thought it would be pretty obvious that he would get the **** ripped from him from being on Big Brother. I can understand he might have been a bit annoyed that someone was taking the piss out of his wife but it wasn't even that bad. Simon read a few lines from Chantelle's book, he didn't make an offensive remark. I don't think it was much of a shock really, the fact Chantelle was even approached to make a book is a joke.

I'm loving Buzzcocks at the moment. I didn't think I would like Simon on it mainly because I have seen clips of Popworld where he has annoyed the hell out of me. I love Bill Bailey too, I'm so glad he's on it.

Why do celebs go on this show if they just get mocked for 30mins

I didn't see it as bullying. Preston acted like a complete idiot. Everybody knows that if you go on that show, you're going to get mocked. Simon read a section from Chantelle's book and Preston was annoyed about that? Worrying.

Donny Tourette got far worse and he took it really well. I ended up liking the man after the initial showing off.

Donny was too out of his mind to have caught on to it

lol in fairness to Preston, Amstell picked out a funny and mocking part to read out. "I was doing a shoot for the Daily Mail, I felt so classy!" -

Good on him for defending her, even though she's as thick as two short planks, and simply reflects everything that's wrong with out society when you become famous... for being famous?!?!

To be fair he didnt exactly defend her, he just walked out in a mood. If he wanted to defend her then he would have sat there and stuck up for her. I think it was just a publicity stunt, he got far more attention from walking out than he would have done if he had just appeared on the show.
He can't have expected to go on the show and not get mocked. All he was doing was reading from his wife's book.

He appeared to have no sense of humour anyway.

I agree, almost every celeb who goes on that show is going to get mocked and it isn't bullying, it's just what the show is about. Celebrities who actually know how to be grown-ups either just take it and laugh along with it or do the clever thing of mocking the host back (not nastily but for more laughs). I think Preston acted very childishly and stupidly, and it has made me really dislike him.

I don't think that Simon Amstell went over the line. He was just doing what he always does - being funny.

I never used to like that show, but now i'm addicted! :p:

I read on another forum from someone in the audience that Preston said loads of times "take the mickey out of me as much as you like but leave my wife alone" before walking off but Simon kept on doing it which is fair enough. He did act like a bit of a spoilt brat, but I can see why he did it if that makes sense. Made him look like an idiot though. You've got to expect it if you're going to go on NMTB.

I had read (on BBC News I think) that the shows take 3 hours to film.
