Friend drunk, so cross with people!

My friend has just got in from a party and is really drunk. She's never had anything to drink before and has just had 6 bacardi breezers. However, she was told she was drinking lemonade by people we both know!

I'm really cross because she's on medication and yet they still let her drink and get drunk. What if her tablets don't work and she has an epileptic fit in her sleep?? I'm really concerned. Do I even have a right to be cross with the people that gave her the alcohol though?

Did they know she was on medication?

That was extremely irresponsible of them to tell her it was lemonade. I would be really annoyed, even if they didn't know she was epileptic. It's a really thick and dangerous thing to do.

They should do. She's been on medication since she was 7, they've known her that long and they see her taking pills everyday so I don't see how they can't have known. I'm just upset because she's one of my closest friends and yet they tricked her and got her into this complete state. :frown:

aww shes lucky to have a friend like you by the sounds of it!

Id be annoyed, of course your going to be protective of your friends!

With 'friends' like those, who needs enemies?

I would be angry and they were certainly irresponsible but I would take it with a pinch of salt that your friend was completely convinced it was lemonade. I'm sure there's an element involved that she is fed up with having to live a different life to everyone else and resentful that she can't drink alcohol so just wanted to rebel tonight, so I don't think the blame can be laid solely on the other people, although they certainly acted in a reprehensible way. She's very lucky to have a friend like you to be concerned. Perhaps give NHS Direct a call to ask how the alcohol might interfere with her medication otherwise you'll be up all night worrying.

Am I wrong to be worried? My friend is telling me that I'm acting like a 90 year old? Thing is, I can't drink either cos of medication and I know how dangerous it could be. Argh, I don't want to fall out with my other friend over my views :frown:

:ditto:

it would be playing on my mind if i didn't.... if i was in her shoes, i would want someone watching my back like you are, and not leaving it to her other 'friends'

Just out of interest, how can you mistake a bacardi breezer for a lemonade?

6 times

In a row.

Not that as a straight male I've ever touched one. No! Of course not...

She'd never drunk alcohol before so probably didnt know the difference. And as I've never had a Bacardi Breezer, I wouldn't know either. I don't know what caused me to act in the way I did (getting angry), but it's caused quite a few problems :frown: ho hum :frown:

Well Bacardi Breezers aren't that strong but I'm sure you would taste the alcohol a bit? I accidently gave my Muslim friend something with alcohol and she realised right away even thought she'd never had it before.

Reply 12

Hmm....this is beginning to make me feel cross with my friend if you say she would have realised. Oh well, what's done is done. I just hope her medication works. Thanks for all your help though  Has calmed me down knowing that I'm not fussing over nothing

Call your own surgery or 0845 850 0734

Call your GP out of hours on the above number and seek medical advice. Don't bother with NHS Direct, they're ****.

Reply 14

That's disgraceful.

Your friend would have known from the first sip, you cant mistake bacardi for lemonade 6 times in a row, she would also notice the effects.

For one lemonade bacardi breezers are not even the same colour as lemonade, they are quite a bright yellow.

You sound more annoyed that you have lost your teetotal friend not that she had a few drinks

Reply 16

you would notice. she probs just wanted to get drunk, go with the masses. who knows.

I find it hard to believe that she could have 6 without noticing something was wrong, someone who does not drink would have noticed afer perhaps 2 or 3 that they were feeling the effects of alchohol and almost certainly before they had finished the 6th drink. she must have been aware and contiued to drink.

I can't taste the alcohol in alcopops. I've never been able to. But I think I'm the only one - everyone else I know seems to be able to  To me, they just taste like sugary drinks.
But I agree that she would have noticed something was up after a few, when they started getting drunk.

I can't really taste the alchol in alcopops either. So she might not have realised from the taste of it- I think it looks a bit like cloudy lemonade- but she should've realised from what was happening to her. Six bottles is a lot for someone who's never drank before! Though I do know how frustrating it is not being able to drink because of medication- I guess peer pressure just got the better of her. If she felt rotten in the morning maybe she's realised that alcohol and medication don't mix and won't do it again!
