Are you male? Can keep growing untill about 21, apparantly. Thats what I'm hoping anyway:smile:
I've never heard of exercise helping you to grow no.
However this website http://tobetaller.com/ disagrees with me, so who knows.
Either way, even without the exercise, that particular site claims that men continue to grow until the age of 25, (21 for females) so you've got time yet.

Yet you have 1.2k+ post count, how ironic.

Yes exercise can help you grow. Basketball is an example. But yes it is genes related, still can be influenced by enviroment

Okay, I've found another site.

http://www.answers.com/topic/human-height

This one says :
Final adult height may be attained anywhere from the early teens to early 20s, though it is most commonly reached during the mid teens for females and late teens for males.

And another one

http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/body/articles/lifecycle/teenagers/growth.shtml

that says:

The average boy is growing fastest between 14 and 15. Girls start earlier, growing fastest when 12 and 13. Girls also end their growth spurt earlier at 18, while boys need another two years before they finish growing aged 20.

So perhaps 25 is ambitious then, but as the OP is only 17, it seems very likely that he will carry on growing for a few years in any case.

I think I'd finished growing by then, but then everyone's different. You can always look at your parents' height, but even that can be quite unreliable sometimes.

I'm sure you could. Even if you stop growing at 19, that gives you two years in which to grow.
If you've gained an inch this past year, then you could feasibly gain another 2 inches in another 2 years

I still don't know about any exercises to help. If in doubt, do them anyway though - if nothing else at least you will be in great shape lol.

For what it's worth, there were kids at school who were always really small and since leaving they've shot up to be average or above average. You could potentially be one of those people. I wouldn't worry about how to encourage growth - as long as you're eating properly and don't fall majorly ill you'll reach your full potential.

True nothing is certain.

Feet are supposed to keep on growing for a fair while, yet I've been comfortably wearing size 8 shoes since I was 13 (in fact I still HAVE a pair of trainers that my mother bought me when I was 13. I'm ashamed to say I still wear them too lol. They're falling apart a bit now - after 10 years I suppose it's to be expected haha).

That said, if you're worried about stunting your growth, don't do any heavy weight training until you're sure you've stopped growing.

wow does weight training stunt growth? I never knew that. I guess you really do live and learn!
(not that I weight train or anything lol, but still, it's interesting to find out).

How tall are your parents?

I have a friend (well....I use the term 'friend' loosely), who is about 5'0" - she's been that way as long as I've know her (since the age of 11). She will be 23 in a few days time. Her parents are pretty small too (although a tad bit taller than her).

Reply 18

haha my dads 5"10 and mums 5"3..and yeah..thanks for the optimism :P appreciated. best not to worry about it..that way..nothing will happen n i wont reach my maximum.
But height does have its social and mental advantages..no matter how much these people say.."height doesnt matter"..it does..more than they realise.People who are shorter than others usually feel less..well..less 17. Also doesnt help when uve got a friend who used to be shorter than u a year ago but has now nearly reached 6 foot:biggrin:

25 is certainly not ambitious but I would say that roughly between 21-24 is when males stop growing.

I've certainly grown since I was 18.

A lot of factors need to be taken into account including diet and also if you were born prematurely then you usely stop growing later than others (maybe a year or two late).

Just keep exercising. Stretching, cycling, running, jumping is good.
