I asked this question to the Imperial admissions secretary a few years ago when I applied.

She snapped my head off.

I was about two hours early to the open day so I was chatting to this random lady, who turned out to be Mery the admissions secretary. Who is actually lovely, don't let this anecdote prejudice you.

So I was chatting to her, trying to get as many inside tips as possible and I asked her how many applicants they got and how many offers they make. She paused for a second and then said very sharply "I can't tell you that!". That was all but she did suprise me with the slight fierceness. As I say she is lovely and I'm now in my third year at Imperial so it didn't hurt in any way.

What she did tell me was in fact very useful. Basically if you're predicted the grades, you'l get an offer. And the interview, unless you kick the interviewer or something, is a formality.
