Hurry Up

Losing my mind.

Applied in October to meet Oxbridge deadline. Hardcore rejection from that. Want to go to Durham. People applying for same course as me (English) who have a weaker application than me (just being honest) have got in. Why haven't i heard yet?

Maybe it's because i applied to a more popular college, Collingwood?? I dunno!

Anyway, just thought id create a thread for others to vent their frustration and describe their situation. Because Durham are sooooo sloooww.

I applied to and was rejected by Oxford too, and now I am just waiting to hear from Durham. I am desperate to hear from them (I have been since I applied because I *think* it's my favourite :s-smilie: ) and it makes it much worse hearing about people who've applied for the same course and got offers. If they're going to reject me I wish they'd just hurry up and put me out of my misery!!! :frown:

Don't worry yourselves too much, if you are really eager send a short polite email to the admissions tutor related to your course, however you must accept that if they get lots of emails from like minded people it is going to be hard to reply quickly, if at all.

Also the uni can't offer too many places before March as they have to give a fair chance to those submitting late as to those who submitted early, so don't fret too much. Also if you have applied to a too popular college you may be pooled to another college, so all is not lost.

With Durham (as far as applications go) no news is good news, as if they would reject you outright you would have heard from them already, so bear that in mind.

Be patient and see what happens

Ian

PS. Good luck and I hope all turns out well

Stopped caring months ago, just want o get this stupid UCAS thing over and done with. Not feeling pleased with Durham at the mo. Having said that, people are getting offers more, so it won't be long now.

If you get an offer at the END of March, does it mean that you miss out on going to the Open Day???
Friend of mine who's there atm says they're STILL interviewing for some subjects. She reckons they've been much slower this year than they were when she applied.

Typical...
Winnipeg, would you choose Durham over Bristol? If so, mind if I ask why?

My Engineering interview was exactly a year ago to the day. I had applied in October to meet the Oxbridge deadline. My offer came in mid-march.

Be patient. You will get a reply.

Hmmm...I don't know...I change my mind from day to day  At the moment I favour Durham (although that may only be because I don't have an offer that it's more appealing). Having said that, I really like the collegiate system of Durham and the idea of going north appeals to me (I have lived in the south of England all my life). I'm not sure whether Bristol might be too anonymous and cityish for me...well, I suppose I'll be able to say for sure after I've been to the Open Day

How about you?

Much of the same really, I've only lived in Dorset and Surrey, so it would be nice/interesting to have a change and head north. I think the fact that Durham is collegiate is part of it, plus I have friends there who absolutely love it. Having said that I really liked Bristol on the open day, the dept. is fantastic and now I'm just really confused. If Durham reject me it won't be an issue though I guess!
The wait has definatly put me off durham. It shows there disorgansied and that really anoys me so I won't be accpeting here (if I get an offer). I havent had an offer from imperial but they inetrview most applicants (unlike durham), including me  , so I can understand it would take longer than other unis. All durham (usaully) have is a little bit of paper from ucas which they can't be botherd to read through and make a decision on. I agree early applicants shouln't be given a better chance (as lond as its before the janaury deadline) but that doesn't mean they can't give out offers quickly. They must have a good idea of who they're going to accept early on and who they're not. I understand there will be a few boarder line candidates but not this amount. Why put it off till the last minute?

Maybe because they have a lot of very similar applicants and want to make sure they make the right decision, or maybe because all the colleges have to confirm they aren't significantly oversubscribed before the last offers are sent out, or maybe because your application has been pooled to another college... who knows. There could be any reason, so if you really think they "can't be bothered to read through" all the little bits of paper from UCAS, you clearly don't have a positive view of the place so probably would be better off somewhere else.

Of course, if you're just anxious about whether you're going to get in or not, that's understandable.

Good luck anyway.

I haven't got an interview yet. I will be patient. Not long to wait now anyway.
yeah it's frustrating me now, cuz i want to move on to accomodation applications. cuz you hear of people who've applied for the same thing, only a few days or weeks before you did and they got their offers a while back and, its just frustrating! ah well, i shall wait some more...

What is WRONG with you? Are you joking? How long they take to get back to you tells you NOTHING about how organised or otherwise they are. They get thousands of applicants, many of whom have identical grades and similar personal statements. If a uni gives you an offer early, it just means you were top of the pile. If it gives you an offer late, you were closer to the bottom. It's not about being organised. Not to mention Durham's two-stage application process, whereby your application has to be approved by the department before being sent to the college and approved there. If the college doesn't have room, you'll have to be sent to another college and see if they want you. Obviously this is going to take longer than most unis' systems. Universities have until the end of March to send out offers, and they are well within their rights to wait until then.

Then again, I don't really think you should come to Durham myself.
if a Uni gives a an offer late it means youre in the middle of the pile not the bottom :p:

ie they reject the worst of early and give offers to best early as well and work their way to the middle.

atleast thats how i expect it to work.
