Hey Lancaster University 2015/16 fresher here.

I was just wondering if anyone currently studying at Lancaster could give some insight about the gym weightlifting facilities. More specifically, whether it's the kind of gym that's 90% cardio with a small free-weights area, or whether there's actually a decent emphasis on free-weights?

    Thanks :P

The sports centre website has photos of the facilities if you want to go look

To give you somewhat of an idea, the freeweights area has dumbbells up to 60kg, approx 8 adjustable benches, 4-5 olympic bars, an oly platform, 2 smith machines, 1 incline, 1 decline, 1 flat bench. But they could have changed it over the summer

Am I right in thinking it doesn't seem to be the most ideally equipt gym for powerlifting? I regularly bench, squat and deadlift, along with accessories but it seems like it'd be okay. Have you used the gym for weightlifting etc?

Not sure how much help I can be here, but I went to their open day a few weeks ago. From what I remember it had a whole separate area for weights, and it seemed as though there were quite a variety to use.

Yeah I've seen the website (thanks anyway), I've just had too many cases where gyms have like tonne of cardio machines and not much of a free weight area. I didn't get to see the gym at the open day but it sounds like it'll be pretty fine

I have been to 7 open days this year (looking at 2016 entry), and Lancaster's sports facilities were my absolute favourite. They seemed to have such a variety, plus they have a rock climbing area which is pretty cool
