I'm thinking of Westminster and Kingston University- Will I be able to live in these areas? I wont be getting any other finacial help.
    Thanks!

Hi this is Kim in Admissions

Firstly it's great to here you are considering studying at the University of Westminster. Living in London can be expensive, but careful budgeting and a little insider knowledge can make a huge difference to your monthly costs. I've listed a few tips below on how to live cheaply in London and I hope this helps answer some of your concerns.

Rent is going to be you biggest outlay. Student Halls are expensive but flat/house shares will bring the prices right down. You can register with the Westminster Housing List where you can find private landlords and hook up with other students looking for accommodation.

Luckily in London there are plenty of job opportunities, and many Westminster students work part time to enhance their CVs and help cover their bills. You can work as a student ambassador at Westminster and earn £9.00 per hour.

Check out websites like Student Beans and Student Money Saver for information on student discounts.

Cycling can save you a small fortune. There are plenty of cycle paths in case you’re worried about safety or getting lost. If you need to use public transport get a student oyster card and you'll get a 30% off travel. The bus is really cheap and a single fare is only £1.50 per journey to all zones.

Also take advantage of whatever Student Finance is available such as the Westminster Additional Grants Scheme that you don't have to pay back.

Don’t buy lunch every day. Bring in packed lunches to save on money. There are water fountains in every campus too.

Remember that studying at Westminster provides you the opportunity to be based in one of the worlds's most exciting, dynamic and fun cities!

    Kim
