Specific heat of combusion?!Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! watch

    • Thread Starter

Hi. Can anyone help me with the planning for my practical--- finding out the specific heat of combusion of paraffin from an ordinary paraffin candle. I have to write a initial plan for the experiment but I dont know how to start... ( the hypothesis, method etc.. and What are the three variables to consider??
I seriously need some help here...Thx

lol i can't help u with it all.. but some guidelines

Weight candle before/ after (to find out how many moles used)
    weight water
    record temp before/ after

    that's about all...

then u needa do calculation. u know specific heat capacity is 4.18? bleh forgot.. somethine around that.. then u know the mass of water and temp change

u can then come up with the energy change

then u jus divide that by the no. of moles used of the candle
Do you agree with the proposed ban on plastic straws and cotton buds?
