Just done a big pre-freshers cloths shop and bought some shirts for my fortnightly GP placements. It's now dawning on me that we might be required to be 'bare below the elbows' like doctors in hospitals are. Can anyone shed any light? I'm going to Birmingham if that means anything

Most GPs do not do this. The risk of spreading infection in a primary care setting is inherently lower than in secondary care.

If you do need to be BBE for any reason then you just roll sleeves up.

Exactly what the previous poster said. I don't own any short sleeved shirts and spend my life BBE.

I have worked in a few GP surgeries. Most of the time I just roll up my sleeves. Same in the hospital to be honest.
