I suggest you don't prepare at all. Have a few vodkas just before the interview to calm yourself, arrive at least 5 minutes late so you don't look desperate and start off with a few good jokes to relax the tutors.

Really don't need the competition

Seriously. Make sure you know your PS, apparently they like to use it as a springboard to ease the conversation, make sure you have read any books you might have mentioned in it for example.

Think about obvious questions, why Law, why Oxford, why HMC in particular. The law interview question doesn't need specific legal knowledge but it's not going to hurt if you've read your way round a couple of judgements to get a feel.

Have a look at the Oxford website, they have some vids of tutors giving tips and a couple of interviews.

Of course vodka helps!

I think I'll do just that. know my PS, revise my law classes from freshman year, etc.

Also, any idea how many law students HMC admits each round?

With only 100 undergrads in total I'm guessing around 35. No idea how many are applying.

well lets hope the numbers are in our favour then! good luck with your interview! when is it by the way?

In terms of the numbers of admitted law students, there are 3-4 on average from Michaelmas term and then a few more joining as senior status students in April. So not even close to 35

That seems more like the right number since 35 is the total in each year. I'm sure there are plenty studying other disciplines besides law!

Yes, though the largest number of students in any one subject is probably PPE.

Do you know how many students are accepted to study E&M? How many are there in your year?

Auch, only one?? I hope they didn't invite too many for interviews. Will be kind of awkward to be competing for the same single spot

I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think the numbers are set - some years they accept more and some years less people. Just do your best - that's all they can ask for!

Good luck!

Ahh great - two is way better than one.. Then you have someone to talk to about the course .. This might be a pointless question: Are they loving there course and studying it at HMC?

They say so yup. The course can be a little annoying at times - especially the management reading but 2nd year on you get to choose your options (really looking forward to this)

Did mine this morning too, actually enjoyed it. The tutors were extremely nice, not at all intimidating and the whole thing was almost conversational. Managed to respond reasonably coherently most of the time. Was put at my ease when the tutor open with slow nodding and 'hmm, impressive references'.(plain brown envelope on its way, Mr Previoustutor)

Fortunately the questions about the case were not too detailed and were pitched more at wider issues relating to the case than specific facts or points of law. Was let go at 4.30, not punted round the other colleges, only 3 candidates kept back for that tomorrow, so have no idea how well I did compared with everyone else. Now it's just waiting for the promised delivery on Xmas Eve.

If I don't get in I'll do it next year just for the craic and 3 days full board.

Now looking forward to a celebratory pub crawl organised by the ever helpful runners.

i enjoyed mine as well. it was over the phone so I am skeptical.

likewise most of the case discussion centered upon the reasoning of law rather than the specifics of the law. I enjoyed the case, thought it was rather interesting.

were there many interviewees for law at the college? how does the field of competition look?

have you received any word from other schools so far?

For those who might be interested:

Vicky from admissions at HMC sent me an e-mail saying that they would mail out decisions early next week on both post and e-mail .. The wait is finally reaching an end
