pregnant?

Im really worried that i might be pregnant after having sex a week ago, at the time i thought the condom had split buy my boyfriend said it was ok.. im really concerned and i know that the best time to take a pregnancy test is when you think the start of your period would be, but that is in 2 weeks and i don't think i can wait that long, i can hardly sleep with worry. i was just wondering if there is a way i can find out now? would a doctor be able to do a blood test or something and find out for sure?? or do i have to wait 2 weeks? please help!

agree with apricot i'm afraid. jst coz yr bf said it was ok, u believed him?! if the condom split - u get the morning after pill - better 2 b safe than sorry! anyway, its 2 late 4 u 2 have it now, i suggest u go 2 the chemist & get a pregnancy test

thanx for the help and i hate myself for not going to get the morning after pill but i know its too late to dwell on now. i will do a pregnancy test but i know the results wont be reliable as its so soon after having sex. does anyone know if i can go to the doctors or find out another way if im pregnant?

Pregnancy tests are actually much more reliable than people'd have you think.

You can get a very reliable one done at your docs, if you're comfortable with it then go straight to him. However, if it was me I would buy 2 home pregnancy tests: do the first one and as you seem really concerned about the time aspect, if it was negative, wait another week or so and then do another.

In the mean time try to preoccupy yourself and not get stressed about it: the ironic thing is (with me, anyway!) if I'm even slightly anxious especially about things like this, then my period just won't come! So don't 'just wait'.

Is it possible to get pregnant if the condom accidentally slips off and your bf comes inside you, but you're on the Pill?

No, because you are on the pill.

What do you think the pill does?

Neither condoms nor the Pill are 100% effective. But they're 98-99% So there's always the smallest chance. This said, I happily don't use condoms and I trust the pill to do its job.

A bigger concern for you should be getting both him and you tested for STIs, which would be my only motivation for using a condom over the pill. If the condom came off inside you then you will have been unprotected from transmitting STIs between each other. Better to be safe than sorry: book an appt at your local GUM clinic - make it a couple's day out

I'm still trying to work out the logistics of that.

why? it happens to me a lot. often you don't realise it's slipped off until it's all over.

I think that, in hindsight, the OP gets that it would have been a good idea to take the morning after pill, so she now knows for the future. As for the preganancy test, I think if you want to be sure, you're best off holding in there for the 2 weeks in order to be able to get a reliable result. And yes, it is possible to get pregnant if the condom slips off and you are on the pill, as neither condoms nor the pill are 100% effective. However the chances of that happening are small, many people use just the pill as opposed to both the pill and condoms.

Can I just clarify this (said it so many times but I still see people panic and ask funny questions). The Pill is >99% effective and condoms are 97% effective - both assume correct usage - so no split condoms or missed pills. However, the efficacies are worked out from the number of pregnancies resulting from 100 sexually active women using them for a year. I.e. for condoms three or fewer will get pregnant for every hundred and for the Pill, fewer than one for every hundred will get pregnant. This means that on an individual basis, correctly used contraceptive methods CAN be 100% effective in preventing pregnancy for that particular woman. There is no need to worry that every 100 times you have sex you will get pregnant!

However the big problem with using only condoms is that if they break you have no backup plan. If you miss a Pill you can just use condoms for the next seven days but you don't have the same kind of contingency plan with condoms alone - if it's split, it's split. So I would always recommend using some form of hormonal contraception as well as a physical barrier in a long term relationship involving regular sex and assuming everything works out for you, OP, this is something you should look into. This experience should also be a valuable lesson in teaching you not to have blind faith in your boyfriend! Always check things yourself. In regards to your query about pregnancy testing, there is an extra sensitive home kit called First Response, which can be used up to five days before a missed period. There is a link to some info here: http://www.firstresponse.com/might/whenToTest.asp. Alternatively, and perhaps more reliably, you can go and have a chat with someone at a GUM clinic or at your local GP's surgery.

hi, so far as pregnancy tests go, theres no point in taking one yet. be patient and dont stress. They wont work this early on in a pregnancy (if you even are pregnant). Though this shouldnt ever be used as an excuse, from teh dates you gave, its unlikely, (but far from impossible) that you are pregnant. You're 2 weeks from your period now, so its now that you're most likely to fall pregnant. So try and take some solace in that.

Why dont you trust your bf? I actually find your lack of trust a little disturbing. If you're having sex with one another you should have some amount of trust. However, if you dont trust him, or his use of condoms, then you should think about getting on the pill and down the sti clinic.
No, there's no way you can find out this early on whether or not you are pregnant. If you take a test now it will give you a negative, no matter whether or not you are pregnant. At the moment (assuming you have regular cycles) you will have only just ovulated, meaning there won't be enough hormone in your pee for a test to show positive, even if you are pregnant.

You can get a First Response pregnancy test which can be done up to 4 days before your period is due, but it's not as reliable as waiting until the actual day (or even a day or two later) and taking a test then.

With the first response tests, the problem is that you could get a false negative, and that wouldn't be good. If you really want an accurate result, test on the day your period is due.

However, as you say you had sex a week ago, and your period is now due in another 2 weeks, thankfully there is a good chance that you won't be pregnant. This, of course, is assuming that you have regular cycles. Because your egg will only be released around now, so a week ago you won't have been fertile.
Having said that, I don't know how regular your cycles are, and the body doesn't exactly work like clockwork, so yes there's still always a chance you could be pregnant.

Just wait the two weeks and take a test.

You are of course absolutely right, but bear in mind that sperm have been known to live for up to seven days inside the uterus and that her ovulation could be a couple of days out and you've got a much higher chance of pregnancy. It's still not what you'd call LIKELY, seeing as there's only around a 20% success rate for conception every cycle, but it's best not to falsely reassure yourself on the basis of where you are in your cycle.
