I've seen so many pound shop knock-offs that are all fairly rubbish, and they will probably become worse now because of this buy out.

Then again, what can poundland really do? They can't really raise prices, but they could decrease what you get for a pound.

The reasoning for allowing the merger is apparently because of other competition, which does seem to make sense:

It added that the new group, which would boast a network of 800 shops, would still face competition from the likes of Poundworld, B&M, Wilko, Tesco and Asda
I don't know how serious the competition is, but I'd also add home bargains to that list even if it isn't around where I live (Brighton).

Are we going to see the start of 2poundland?

What's your favourite - poundland or 99p store?

you get a greater selection in the 99p store than you do in £ land. Imo the 99p store is better.

don't be dizzy there's never going to be a '£2 land', and '199p' store sounds daft, plus it's a mouthful..
Also imagine this in context 'lets go to £2 land' ? Wtf ????

The pick and mix is awesome!

I squash down the sweets and wedge some in under the cup to get the most for my 99p

99p lets you buy 2 for 1. Do you see that with £land.

It does make me think how long poundland will last before inflation puts them out of business!

Smart move by Poundland tbh. The price war they'd got into with 99p stores (referring to their discounting, rather than the headline price point) was catastrophic for their margins and would have put them in real trouble.

99p stores are stupid, you are constantly left with a growing stack of useless 1p coins. At least with poundland you spend the whole damn pound!
