Lump in neck

A couple of weeks ago i found a lump in my neck which i assumed to be a swollen lymph gland, i didnt feel it for a while and so have done nothing but the other day i felt it again and its not gone away yet. I dont know whether to go to the doctor or not yet as it may just go again and i have been to him before with swollen lymph nodes which have dissapeared after a few days but its just this one is not going and i am getting quite worried. Should i book an appointment or wait a day or too more and see if it goes of its own accord?

If ever in doubt see the doc! its what they are paid for.

I would see the doc anyway, any lumps terrify me. My glands dont both become swollen at the same time in my neck so i tend to panic quickly. One thing to do is get someone to see if they also can feel them!
Just something my doc said, if they cant at all then chances are its a slight swelling of glands and you can feel it as its your own body. If they can then its a proper swelling and you may need anti-biotics etc

I'm going on Friday to get an ultra-sound scan of an intramuscular tumour in the back of my neck which showed up on an MRI. I'm thrilled at the prospect...:frown:

Good luck with that. My friend had an ultra-sound on her neck, and she said it didn't hurt at all. You'll be fine :hugs:

aww thanks - I'm not worried about it hurting - i'm just worried about whether the tumour is benign or not!! They think it's a lipoma which would be a benign fatty tumour - but there's always that element of doubt which is rather scary..

I'd say generally if something you believe to be a gland doesn't go after three days or after you've recovered from an illness you should see a doctor just in case. Go see a doctor to put your mind at rest.

My sister had a lump on her neck after going on the pill, something to do with glands/hormones- it could be that.

Whatever-you really need to visit the docs!

it's quite likely to be a swollen lymph node, i just had to go to the doctor after finding swellings behind my ear and was told they were lymph nodes and could take up to six weeks to go down completely. but go to the doctor just in case to check it out, and even if it's nothing to worry about reassurance is always a good thing!
