I received an email about accommodation saying:

"Congratulations. Your application has been successful. We can offer you a room at University Managed Housing, the paperwork will be sent out by email. Emails will be sent out in the next few weeks. When you receive the offer you will need to pay a deposit, which is currently £150, to secure the room."Does this mean I pay the deposit now to secure it or do i wait until the paperwork comes out?

Pay the deposit as soon as possible, if I remember well you have a 14 days deadline to do so. You might already have the paperwork. I paid as soon as I could and I received the paperwork in less that 48 hours and everything worked out fine.
