A young generation's attitude and opinion on Romanian immigrants

Poll

My attitude towards Romanians:

Hello, guys! As the title says, I want you to state your opinions, questions, etc regarding this subject and I will try to answer them. I am Romanian and I have always wondered how my nation is seen beyond Romania's borders. I am fully aware of the fact that Romanians are not very liked among British nationals.
So let's start a discussion on this topic if you will.

I, for one respect romanians a great deal. Sure there are some who "scrounge" but many of them are the hardest workers I've ever seen. This one Romanian guy that I work with is a year younger than me, and got hit by a car (no lie) and came to work the next day. He came in everyday, the boss had to send him home, but he'd still come back the next day.

idc what people say Eastern europeans are the hardest working mofokers iv ever seen
I don't mind them.
I'm going to be honest at the risk of criticism... I'm not sure I could identify a Romanian in a crowd, so I don't know how to answer your question
Hey there, fellow Romanian! ^^
Interesting question here. I'll watch this thread to follow the opinions!

I don't like the fact that the EU expands into countries while they are still poor and so ideally you wouldn't come however for the most part your fine and certainly preferable to other immigrant groups, you are European afterall.
Romanian immigrants in Spain are a mixed bag, but 80% don't mix with the native population, run around in gangs and intimidate other immigrants. According to a Spanish shop keeper, they also steal quite often.
I don't think its so clear cut as "hate them" or "love them". Each person is an individual.

What does annoy people though is that there is an apparent culture shock between large parts of the Romany (not purely Romanians) immigrants and the local community - and the local community feels that if immigrants are to come here, its not too much to expect them to respect the existing culture and accept it as being dominant. For example, there is a Romany tradition of people just hanging out on the street at night. There's nothing particularly wrong with it - in fact within its own cultural background it is a worthy and laudable thing - allowing families to meet and pass the time of day much like people here used to do in the local village pub (before they all went bust or were turned into gastro-pubs or bookies). But here, when the nights draw in and with our cultural background it can be extremely intimidating to people, especially lone women who have to walk past and through these people.

What is harmless in one place can be completely unacceptable in another - look for example at the girl who went to prison in Indonesia for insulting a mountain recently.

From what I've seen, its not as though these people do it on purpose to wind the local community up - its simply an education issue. They don't know they are doing wrong and as soon as they are told or informed (by someone speaking their language as many immigrants don't speak enough English to be able to understand what people are telling them and just think they are unpopular because people are acting in a racist way towards them), they disperse.

This happens in my country, too. Young adults or adolescents(for the most part) gather around apartment buildings or in parks or such and they drink, are loud and dirty the place with trash or such. If you pass past them(especially being a woman) they start harassing you, asking you for your number or even putting their hands on you. They are usually the scum of society, with no jobs or families to support, they don't go to school etc. They "manage" by doing illegalities or barely-legal stuff. Normal people in Romania fear them, too. They are mostly gypsies, to be honest, but not always.

What I wanted to transmit with this topic is that Romanians are different than gypsies. The same problem you have in your countries with them, we have here too. But we just don't seem to be bothered anymore, it's come to be...normal. Unfortunately.
They steal, they don't pay taxes, they harass, kill, rape, etc. They gather on the streets with their whole families and fight with swords, knives, etc.

And the worst part both for Romania and your countries is that they are the most numerous when it comes to immigration. Normal Romanians either don't leave Romania or when they do leave, they don't attract attention to themselves so they aren't noticed as the gypsies.

I am sorry this happened, it hurts my heart that my image is ****ted on by unemployed uneducated scum and nothing I'll ever do will erase that because they are too many. Too damn many...So the best I can do is try to explain the situation through a Romanian's eyes and help others see that we aren't all like that.

I second that. Moreover, they are also viewed negatively in Romania because of the things they do outside the country. I'm by no means implying that there aren't any 'Romany' people that are honest and hardworking, nor that pure Romanians can't possibly act like absolute trash. But generally lots of 'Romany' people abroad engage in begging or illegal activities, and due to the similarity of the politically correct name for them and that of the Romanian ethnicity + the fact many of them are in fact Romanian citizens, people like those in the UKIP or even less extreme than that tend to view Romanians in a very negative light, which is, quite frankly, unfair. The documentary 'The Romanians are coming' from BBC caused quite the outrage here precisely for that reason.

Wait for North Africa
Depends if you are talking about real Romanians or Gypsys.
Most of the ones I met seemed pretty nice, hardworking, etc.

I had a funny conversation with one of them I used to work with though:

"Where are you from?"

"Milton Keynes."

"Yeah, but where are you from?"

"Milton Keynes."

"But where are you from? for instance, I'm from Romania."

"Err... England."

"England?"
Afraid of some of them(criminal gangs) but then there coule be worse sorts to allow freely into the country. If they come to start a business here, I'll be satisfied. If you are here to just take a job or sponge, I'll view you less favourably

While I suspect it will, I'll have long campaigned for out.

The moment they try to include Africa is the moment I get the heck out of Europe. I doubt that will ever happen but if they tried to allow open migration from Africa, Europe would turn into one big slum

While I don't support an EU exit right now, a million asylum seekers will have entered Europe this year alone. Its awful.

Be careful. The liberals on this forum are gonna crucify you for questioning reality

Ha. Most of the liberals love me for the rest of my views so its fine.
Romanian girls have totally taken over the escort business across the UK. Just hope they are not forced into it!

But overall the community is not bad but obviously does have some undesirables.
