Nothing. You're nothing, just a body, dead meat, ash, whatever.

I think you'll just cease to exist but I'd like to think during my life I'd have made a difference to people on some level and they'd remember me and I'd kind of live on that way; if someone somewhere is still thinking or talking about you, in a sense, you can't die or cease to exist completely...
Tbch i hope it's like the end of the film gladiator though!

I don't remember what it was like before I was born. I suspect that being dead might be the same sort of thing.

But who knows?

Maybe reincarnation is true. Maybe there is a heaven and hell after all. Maybe we given a new assignment on a different planet by our alien masters.

I am an atheist. But I would not say for sure what happens at death time.

Does any of us survive somehow, other than memories? I believe our understanding of the world is too limited to tell.

The notion of living forever with the gods after death sounds more metaphorical than anything else though.

I'm an atheist, and I dont think anything happens after death, but of all the afterlife theories I think reincarnation on some level is probably one of the most plausible:

- it ties in well with the idea of energy being neither created or destroyed, i.e. this occurs on a metaphysical as well as physical level

- it explains 'past life regression (PLR)' (of course assuming some accounts of PLR are actually factual)

- it perhaps offers an explanation of common phenomena of people feeling an emotional connection or feeling of familiarity to things they have not yet had any experience of in their lives (eg. certain locations; people who seem familiar even though you've never met them; inexplicable de ja vu; etc)

I don't have a clue what happens after death, but I'm in no rush to find out.

I'd call myself a doubting Christian but I do sort of like this viewpoint. I remember watching a video in psychology in which doctors were given a A4 paper and asked to shade how much scientists know about the brain. Most covered the paper in a dot no more than 1cm or 2 big.

I'm rambling on a bit but i think that is somehow relevant.
