Tampon Leakage

Hey, first of all I want to say that for the first time I finally got a tampon in woowoo.
However, I only had it in for 4 hours or so, and I had some leakage. Now its hard to say how much seeing as I was wearing a g-string (don't worry I was wearing dark trousers and like a speck leaked through)
Was the tampon not far enough in? I could feel it ever so slightly but not that much.
Anything else?

I have "light to medium flow"
Could it just be the tampon was too small?
I could try getting a bigger ones.

yea try getting bigger ones and if you dont trust them or they dont work for you as they dont for somepeople you may have to try pads or get one of the contraceptives that stop your bleeding

Just sounds like you need bigger tampons to cope with your flow. Sometimes the absorbency descriptions can be deceptive i.e. you may think you have a light/medium flow, but that may not correspond with the tampon manufacturers...

Well 4-6 hours is about the right time for changing, so it sounds good to me. I would say to continue using the smaller ones for a while to get used to getting it in, and just change it every 3 hours or so. Don't go up a size until you can get the smaller ones in quickly and easily.

If you could feel it - it may have not been in properly.Or try using a bigger size & see if that makes a difference.

As the others mentioned try a higher absorbancy or if you are using minis try using the normal sized ones, it can be a good idea to wear panyliners as well on the heavier days just incase it does leak a bit. It might take a while to get used to which absorbancies to use on which days of your period as well.

okay, i've finally managed to get a tampon in for the first time yay! but i;ve only had it in for about 15 minutes and its leaking a little bit. I think maybe i haven't pushed it in far enough, cos its a regular tampon and my period isnt too heavy. what have i done wrong?

I came on my period 2 days later so I worked out where i was going with my finger then put the tampon in the same spot.

I just put a tampon in for the first time, and I was all pleased and couldn't really feel it, but I'm pretty sure my muscles are trying to force it out as it's not in as far as it was and now I can feel it. Tried to push it back in a few times but the same thing happened, so I tried to pull it out but it's too dry and now it's a little uncomfortable :frown:

Do I need to push it in further next time? Damn, I really want to take it out but I can't ...

you shouldn't really be able to feel it. Don't be scared, it won't get lost in there :p: and I'd say you may need to use a bigger size.

ok, i feel a bit stupid here but why doesn't it slide in really easily with you know the lubrication..... if you're dry you don't need a tampon.... and yeah, you need to change them about every 4 hours anyways. try a slightly bigger size perhaps but you need as small a size as you can deal with to minimise risk of TSS. also changing it regularly is good hygeine. lilettes do some with a gel thingy to lubricate it if you're having issues with getting it in. also yeah, if you can feel it just push it in further.

get tampax applicator ones, they're probly easiest to put in. also give it a firm yank and it'll always come out....

Reply 14

You see that's the strange thing, I've found that applicator ones are a lot harder to get in. Besides, it would depend on whether you prefer your tampon to expand widthways (like Lil-Lets) or lengthways (like Tampax)....

Applicator ones always seem really complex to me, so I just went for non-applicator ones. I was dry because the tampon had soaked up the moisture and until it "needs" changing, it's difficult to get out. The leaflet made out that that was right, anyway, so I wasn't worried that it was stuck

is it possible for a bit of the tampon to stay in you when you pull it out? cos it was really difficult for me to take mine out yesterday and when i yanked it out i worried that a bit would have come off and stay up there

You should use the smallest tampons possible and change them more often. It's normal to get some leakage. I don't think I've ever had a period and not had to do some handwashing at some point. The best thing to do is just wear a pantyliner (not a sanitary towel) at the same time. A spot or two of blood isn't a problem.
