Hey

How does your social anxiety/phobia manifest itself (if you don't mind me asking)?

Hey, I ahve social anxiety and I can tell you it is awful. I find it hard to form relationship- and find it even harder to keep them. It does overtake your life, and I think people really dont regard it as a serious mental condition.

How exactly do you plan on improving your social anxiety?
Do you find it annoying when people call you "shy"?
I am part of an online support group and plan on maybe getting CBT when I'm old enough for assured confidentiality. I am also trying out gradually exposing myself to 'scary things' LOL

It p!sses me off no end. Shy is discomfort and a personality trait, not extreme fear, anxiety, worry, panic attacks and a mental disorder.

Thanks for asking!

Hey

How does your social anxiety/phobia manifest itself (if you don't mind me asking)?
Usually extreme fear and panic attacks. Due to verbal and physical bullying for 7 years I also have a constant fear of being stared at or judged in any way (e.g. hearing someone laugh or whisper and I think it's automatically about me). It's usually worse in performance situations (prssentations, speaking in class etc.).

Thanks for asking!

I'm sorry to hear about the bullying. It's good to hear that you have plans in place to help you in the future!

Thanks for answering.

Is there more to overcoming anxiety problems than just "confidence training"?

For me (and most, I believe)- definitely. Especially if there are very complex or underlying issues or mental health issues in the family. In my case, it was 7 years of verbal and very violent physical bullying (being told how worthless I was, to kill myself, one of the girls dragging her nails down my arm until it drew blood over a major vein and telling me I deserved the pain, beatings which leave scars 4 years later etc.)

Thanks for asking!

Says the one who asked whether or not I had social anxiety, despite it being in the title.

But please let's keep it friendly here. Have a good evening all!
