Life is going well, but feel lonely

Besides a few hiccups along the way, things seem to be going as planned. However, I feel so lonely. I've never known how to make friends, and feel really bad at work because I'm the quiet guy who no one ever speaks to. I am a fairly regular kinda guy, but am painfully shy. I would also love to meet a partner one day. There's a girl at work whom I kinda fancy but the only two times that I've had any contact with her, I acted all shy and that's not attractive at all.

Ah, a fellow member of the 'I'm So Horrifically Shy I Can't Speak To Girls' Club eh? I feel your pain, old chap!

Unfortunately, I'm going to say what you have already probably been thinking: you have to swallow down that shyness and just go for it. Initiate contact in a relatively mundane and easy way, such as "I'm going to get a coffee/tea/beverage/snack, want one?" Once you get the first few words out, the rest will flow easier.

actualy yeah - Spleh is right --- if you just say anything! even something as simple as that, it would gradually form at least a friendship with this girl. Aww -- yeah, shyness - i know the feeling! You're better off following the advice of Spleh really as if you were to just swallow your shyness and suddenly have a burst of confidence, anything could happen!! -- and chances are it can't be good!

I know it's a cliche but alcohol helps.
