We knew about the attacks (various emails)....didn't think they were rapes though!

Thing is, most of the cases, if not all, the female has been on her own - i don't even walk to my hall on my own (i have to go round the back of a building) at night! Still a horrible thing to happen though, but with it being in the media now people will probably be a lot more aware

I wonder whether it will negatively affect the uni's reputation permanently

Reply 4

I don't see why it would, happens all over the country

Yeh, and will probably blow over fairly quickly. The Ipswich murders / prostitutes / rape thing was pretty large, and that's now died down in the press; and police presence is back to normal.

I didn't even here anything on the news down here.

That's what I thought too...happens at probably a lot of uni areas...and "educational" areas as well...

In leeds uni, there was a gay rape in the first week of freshers. Scared the **** out of my mate there

Reply 8

It won't affect the Uni's reputation I wouldn't have thought, maybe just the town, if any. It happens all over the place. I'm sure whoever it is will be caught soon anyway.

For what it's worth, the only time I have ever felt threatened in Loughborough was a Saturday night when I walked through the town centre on my own, which was my own stupid fault really. On the whole, I feel safe here and security do a good job. It's sad that such things do happen though.

the only reason it has attracted attention is cos its a serial attacker and its a small town that usually doesnt suffer from problems such as this - you go to a big city like manchester or london or something you will find rapes unfortunately happen all the time

I do think it is quite bad that we only found out from the registrar because it was going to be on the news, and there have been 3 attacks since christmas and there was no alert from the uni. we were all given rape alarms at work back when the first attack happened at the beginning of the year, but it is quite worrying about how many have happened in a short space of time. Just my tuppence worth!

I thought you were meant to shout "fire" as opposed to "rape" if you're being attacked, because people don't mind helping with a fire, but want to disassociate themselves from a rape.

 Well walking through the town center at 11pm at night when there are large groups of drunk local yobs when you're on your own is not the most safety encouraging experience.

Reply 15

no, i wouldnt suggest anyone walks through the town centre late at night on their own, my guy mates would walk back in a group, but if they have girls with them they get a taxi, theyve nearly been dragged into fights so many times with the chavs

 is Loughborough that rough?! Im sort of shocked, I always throught it was the cute, cosey, sweet, everyone-knows-everyone-and-loves-each-other sort of place. From waht i've heard it's like a small lil' village in itself, remote from other places.

I always thought that Loughborough was a little rough, (No North East reference please Alex...........)
But I was pleased to see its not as bad as I first thought, The amount of Charvers are deffinatly lower then back at home and they arn't as violent either. They tend to leave you alone.

Reply 18

Surely it can't be as bad as South / South East London... Im going there this Saturday for an open day.. I'll give it my rating then. Maybe i'll unknowingly see a few of you guys there
