Skyped with supervisor today. Herself and the Department's Director of Graduate Studies (DoGS) want me to go ahead with my May progress review, unless it would prove detrimental to my mental health :frown: Not too happy about that but guess it's worth trying to see if I can do it on time with everyone else in my Department

Good luck with it *waves pompoms*

I've just rushed to the end of this. You submittted yet TLG? And I wondered if your understanding of ethnography had altered since opening post of 2015?

I am nowhere near submitting, haha! Doing it part-time, just over halfway through but may need to extend the duration due to extenuating circumstances :frown:

Interesting question as to whether my understanding has altered. I guess inevitably these things mature as the years go by! So probably has, even if I haven't actively noticed it

Dw, I switched between PT and FT, plus extenuating circumstances, but you'll get there. I'm asking as I found ethnography to be more experiential than 'practical' (as described in yr opening post), but I suppose it depends where you're located on the participant-observer spectrum. Good luck with it.

Experiential is def the better word for it - I would agree with that :yep: :five: :yep:

Thanks

Aww sending love to you <3 You're an inspiration! Don't know how to express it but you're great xx

Wonder what happened to the rest of my post :s

I don't know how to express this, but I feel you will succeed because from what I can see here, you are a great, inspirational person with passion for their studies.

I know how its like to have health can make it hard for one to study. So I'm sending love xx

Trying to put together the paperwork for my progress review. No idea if the prose I'm writing makes any sense :erm: Might have to send it to a friend before I send it to my supervisor

She's finally told the department, so I'm now able to write about this on here:

A few weeks ago, my PhD supervisor broke the news to me that she's leaving my uni (and indeed, the UK) to take up a highly prestigious and much better academic post up at UCLA! :eek2:

She was very quick to reassure me that she will still continue to supervise me and be my main supervisor - it'll just have to be mostly Skype from now. She will visit London for Christmas and summer and things like that, but will be based in Los Angeles. My uni department are going to appoint one of the remaining staff to be my "internal" PhD supervisor (meaning I meet them about twice a term and show them my work too).

I'm absolutely gutted and broken by this news, ngl. Happy for my supervisor, obviously, but gutted for myself. So many uni people have left me this year and this is just one thing too many tbh :bawling:

Seeing supervisor for the first time since she broke the news (via Skype, as she was in India) tomorrow. Wish me luck :erm: I've written her a nice card and am gonna buy some flowers to say congrats :yep:

sorry to hear that she's leaving - does your new supervisor seem nice or have you not really met them yet?

They haven't 100% confirmed who the internal supervisor will be. If they can't guarantee me the person I want (my supervisor's departmental BFF), then I'm quitting :sadnod: Hopefully it'll all work out :erm: :cry2: :emo:

Supervisor's departmental BFF is nice and mental health-friendly too. Not quite as nice as my supervisor, but that'd be asking a lot

That's a real shame for you :hugs: hope your meeting goes well

Forgot to write about this on here  I've found a super-cool conference (with exciting keynote speakers) that I wanna attend, and ideally present at. Only thing is it's in Amsterdam  But I really wanna do it.

Sent a draft conference abstract to my PhD supervisor and she mostly likes it! Just wants me to stick some theory into the abstract, which is a good idea

Maybe my conference mojo is finally back :headfire:
