Accounting: Lancaster, Glasgow or Manchester?

Received offers from Lancaster and Glasgow for Accountancy and Finance, but have not from Manchester. (probably get rejected as put big emphasis on A lvl)

I'm doing Scottish Higher this year, and due to circumstances, I cannot take the Advanced Higher Lvl. Don't ask why, I just can't.

English Unis hate the Scottish Higher for some reasons although 5As at Higher have almost the same UCAS points as 3As at A Lvl. Probably because the syllabus is easier.

I know that none of these 3 unis will ever get me into IB (maybe Manchester - but that is pushing it) , so I'm hoping that IF i can get a 2:1/1 i will still have the chance of applying for postgraduate course at the top 5 unis.

Which one will be my best bet? Tbh, I really don't want to go to Glasgow considering that I'm living here now. I know that it is possible to do Mphil Finance at Cambridge with a Lancaster degree. (I've seen the alumni profile) But granted, she had a first class degree with a special chancellor medal......

Anyway, if I still can't get into IBs with a Master degree, I will probably be targeting the Big 4. (I guess the strerotype of accountants being IB losers applied to me.. oh well..)
If im anything to go by; Manchester's your best bet.

Can I ask why you think you wouldn't stand a chance with a degree from either Manchester or Glasgow?

I always regarded these two as excellent unvierisites but maybe because my interest is Medicine, that might have something to do with the difference of opinion.

The reason? Influx of LSE, Oxbridge, Imperial etc graduates will squash me like the ant I am.

Glasgow's fine for medicine and sciency stuffs..but other than that...meh...

Heard from someone that the banks didn't even go there first, but instead Strathclyde which is an ex-poly. Have no idea about the accuracy since it was someone from this forum and he is from Strathclyde as well..

Besides, I'm in Glasgow atm, and would like to venture to new places if possible.

Manchester is ok too, but they have not replied to me. I think it's a possible rejection. It's possible to get into 2nd tier IB with a Manchester degree, maybe? But I would still need something amazing to probably make me stands out.

Lancaster has a 6 stars management school but i doubt the banks really care about this. They don't seem to have much recognition either. (Their offer to me is really low though - 2As and 3Bs at Scottish Higher, ABB at A Lvl) Really like the place though since it's quiet compares to Manchester and Glasgow - which are really big cities...

I'm seriously thinking of going to Lancaster, study my butts of for 3 years and get a good enough degree to do postgraduate at top 5 unis. I can still go into accounting industry (which I don't mind btw) if everything does not go as plan.

Listen, Lancaster and Manchester are good enough unversities.Get As at A-level, work hard and you can do it. LSE and Oxbridge is just a name on your CV, it doesn't make you any smarter or more sucessful. It's all up to you.

yep i agree with the above. Lancaster and Manchester are certainly not bad unis by any stretch of the imagination. If you're good enough for IB I'm sure you'll have a decent chance of a job regardless of which uni you went to (Lancaster or LSE for example)

Lancaster has a very good management school and the employers are aware of it (that is their job). You'll surely have lots of interviews with IBs but if you are sooo pessimistic you won't get into the industry!
I would pick either Manchester or Lancaster... leaning more towards Manchester because of the uni. For prospects I think those two are pretty good.

Fully agree, Manchester maybe by a small margin.

hey, why r u so pessimistic mate?
i think those 3 could be steping-stones to IB if u do reanably good in the course u go. and i particular think manchester is really a unparalleled platform for u to be heading for ur dream job, as its reputation in accounting and finace has to offer.

I would say Manchester.
