Career guidance for Economics 2015

My ultimate goal is to help a developing country with the economy aspects. So what Economics or relatable degree at uni allows me to do so or is suitable for this?

Looking forward for any replies...

I am looking for Uni's in London, with high ranking in the economics department. Have you got any more suggestions?

There's a lot of high rollers in London. LSE, UCL, etc. But these tend to be more for the standard econ grad wanting to go into banking/finance.

Rankings shouldn't be important at all. If development is what you want to do then I'd highly advise you look into the School of Oriental and African Studies. Its prestige isn't as high as some others, it's not RG, etc. but the stuff they let you do is vastly different to other mainstream institutions. Check it out.

I think you're going to struggle with just a degree, have you considered getting a Masters/PHD?

In an ideal world, I'd love to do something similar to your goals but a lot of developing countries 'positively' discriminate against Westerners in public sector jobs.

Development = SOAS but it's probably better to start off at LSE/UCL and move onto postgrad at SOAS

Yes I have. But I don't know what route to take, i.e. what Course and uni to go to

I don't know. I'm thinking about doing a MSc at LSE (in economics), working for a few years, and then doing a PHD, hopefully abroad somewhere.

I think experience is just as important as education for these types of jobs, from what I've seen ~5 years is a minimum with a MSc. Might be difference if you get a PHD.

AQA, and they're changing the exam structure this year I think so it won't be the same.

Just practice your exam structures and don't put anything radical in your exams and you should be fine.
